Car will not get off from floor...

I was getting a clunking noise and narrowed it down to the sway bar end link.

Problem now is that the side with the snapped end link will not get off the ground.

Jacking from the center front jack point the passenger side is able to clear the ground and I can place jack stands, but the driver side... not so much, the tire is still on the ground. I am also on a even driveway.

So, two options at the moment:

1) Work without a jackstand and chance it with the hydraulic jack.

2) Try to get a jackstand on the front jack point under the engine.

3) Anything else you guys can think of?

Thanks,

Oh, and attached pic for your viewing pleasure.

Broken sway bar link

Looks like the darn thing just snapped in two

Maybe jack the car up as high as you need with the floor jack, jackstand the car up, then use the factory scissor jack to raise the control arm to where you need it.

bigger jack

Or put a chuck of wood on the pan of the jack to get an extra inch or two

Why are you not just jacking up each side individually? With any given jack, you can get higher doing one side at a time than you can jacking up on the crossmember.

Thanks for the suggestions.

My scissor jack was damaged and thrown out, but if needed, I will use the jack to jack the control arm if needed and when I get the car off the ground

I might just have to find something to put the jack on and jack up the car front with a extra inch or two to see if it's enough.

As for jacking up one side at a time, that would be possible as the option 1, however I would just be risking the jack failing at a crucial moment while my hands are in the wheel well area.

Do you not have a pair of jackstands?

I never said anything about working on the car supported by only a floor jack.

Hate to be a **** but if you can't figure out how to get the car off the ground maybe you shouldn't be working on it.....

Hehe, figure I would get a reply like that in the thread somewhere, did not expect it to take so long though

But yah, I just ended up placing a concrete slab under the jack and got the car high enough.

The nuts were on really tight though, had to use a 24" breaker bar to get it off, but all done and no more clunking noise
