how do i replace teh lights in the instrument cluster + climate control
how do i replace teh lights in the instrument cluster + climate control
any one know what size bulbs i need to order for both the climate control and gauges(instrument cluster) i would like to swap to blue L.E.Ds. also what do i got to do to take everything apart??? pics would be helpful too THANKS GUYS
I'm looking, too
I am doing the same thing. I am doing as many of the interior lights with LEDs as I can. Just plain white though. If you find anything on the cluster lights or the climate control, let me know. I want to replace the cluster ones and the A/C lights need to be replaced since one of them has stopped working. I am doing the dome light, courtesy lights, license plate, trunk cluster lights and climate control. Where are you getting your LEDs? I am looking at superbrightleds.com I think. Resellerratings.com has good reviews on them...
Let me know!

I think most of them are 194's... I ordered a 10pack of them on ebay yesterday. But those are for sidemarkers/courtesy lights etc etc.... Im not so sure about the gauges, but I will be doing those soon too
Here is what I have found: (from another forum: http://www.b15sentra.net/forums/arch.../t-169400.html)
#74 bulbs for the guage cluster...
Just changing out the bulb is really easy, only 5 screws to remove:
1. Tilt your steering wheel all the way down
2. Look at the plastic bezel around the gauges, Remove the two Phillips screws on the top.
(It can be tricky getting this peice out with the steering wheel in the way, I had to carefully bend it to remove/reinstall it.)
3. Now you see the white gauge cluster, with three phillips head screws. one on the top, and one on each side. remove them.
4. Gently pull the cluster toward you, and face it downwards on top of the steering column.
5. You will see where the base of the light twists into the cluster, untwist and remove the one you want to replace.
6. Swap the "base" of the burn out bulb to the new bulb, they "wedge" into the base.
7. Screw the bulb back in, re-assemble with the 5 screws you removed. Done.
same goes for installing the #74 l.e.ds, but if you want to change the color and still see your gauges at night, you'll have to pull the whole cluster apart and do some sanding.

Also, I think its easier to use a paint thinner than to sand the backing off the cluster.
what about the HVAC (slider, not auto) bulbs? My burnt out a while ago - figured I would change them when I do the HU, which isn't anytime soon, but since the thread is active I'll write the info down for later use.
Nice
I like that write-up and definitely think the calibration needs to take place! I think I will still just go with the standard #74 bulb to keep things uniform and keep from having to tear into things, but I am just doing white. If you are doing a color that may be a good idea so you have the extra light.

You can also PM knight_yyz (member here as well) should you have any questions as he has swapped out just about every bulb in the Interior

To answer your question, no you should not have to sand them down if you get the 74 (gauge cluster) LEDs...just be sure and get the 74-xHP3 (x is the color variable) from SuperbrightLEDs.com

and more on topic for you:

I wouldn't tear the cluster apart to sand it down before you saw what the red LEDs looked like first. There is a thin blue film that might give you problems. Here's my cluster with cool white LEDs. You can see how it gets a light blue tint from that film.
I wasn't at all saying it wouldn't, I was just saying I haven't tried it but I certainly wouldn't risk pulling the cluster apart before I did. If the LEDs are bright enough I doubt the tint would make that much difference. Just figured he should be aware that it's there.
