Rev up oil Pump installation?
Rev up oil Pump installation?
Since I have a dead spare motor lying around I decided to take it apart and see exactly how the oil pump fits in. I got to the point where the chain cover was 2 bolts away from being taken out. I believe the other bolts are from underneath the oil pan.
My question is, once the chain cover is taken out you have this gear on (correct me if i'm wrong) the crankshaft that has to be taken out before the oil pump can be installed. Now this gear, does it require a special tool to come out or can it be taken out with a flat head screw driver and some love taps?
Thanks to anyone who can help out!

No real need to even tap it off, they tend to just slide right off (at least on every VQ I've torn apart).
Yes, there are two bolts that go up through the upper oil pan into the front cover, and you'll also have to work out the two alignment dowels.
