I have a 98 Maxima and I used to get 16-17 mpg. I switched over to the 95 ecu and got a Walbro fuel pump and now been consistently getting 19-21 mpg. Driving style has stayed the same.

Are your tires inflated properly? Are you lugging around a bunch of unnecessary stuff in your car? So the spark plugs didn't change anything? Which ones did you put in? I'm going to need to replace mine soon.

Not sure if you have done this yet, but I switched over to Synthetic and my mileage improved, I am going with 22 MPG with a dead knock sensor, with same fuel filter, air filter, ect.

But just like what the other members said above if you are pushing 17 you might need to check the:

-Knock sensor
-Air pressure in tires
-Extra weight in trunk
-Throttle body
-Air filter
-Fuel filter
-Oil (Maybe?)
-Spark plugs (Maybe?)

Haha some of those things seem to contradict each other, like wouldn't a clogged air filter mean less air which equals less gas consumption???? Maybe I am over thinking it

Use high octane fuel, check tire pressure, change oil, and keep your foot off the gas. The Maxima is not a Prius, it was never designed to be a gas saver.
