pics of cattman intakes
Hey whats going have bben doing some searching couldnt really find and anything was wondering if anyone has any pics of the cattman combi intake or what ever it is . pcs of installed place racing cold air would be apprciated as well cause i wanna know how low to the ground it is kinda worried about the whole water thing wasnt sure how much risk there was thanks.
^+1 i felt a small difference with a shortram and cold air.
get a short ram, not much more power but everyone thinks there really cool when i open my hood
plus i love the noise, i completely forget what my car sounds like stock.
plus custom shortram>cattman prices,
cattmans a great guy, im just not paying 100+ for a piece of pipe.

sounds like an idea what would u suggest for a custom maf adapter and k&n cone or add a pipe with that
i could post pics tomm if i find a camera.
custom MAF adapter i used was a stillen but it broke, so i went to autozone and just reddrilled an air intake adapter piece. hasn't failed for months, cost me 5 dollars.
Midpipe is a must, you can go stock or buy one off of ebay, i also used a autozone vacuum adapter+nipple kit for a total of 17 dollars.
im using a nismo cone.

I also threw on one of the INJEN prefilter covers that is suppose to act as a moisture barrier and filter out larger particles to keep your actual filter cleaner longer.
I just bought the BOMZ ebay kit for something like $30 total and then threw away the crappy filter that it came with and replaced it with a K&N filter.

Sounds good...i need to find those coves too

That'll kill about 15 horse at WOT. Saw it on the dyno. It actually gets sucked into the pleats at WOT and if you take it off you'll gain about 10-15 horsepower. I had one too until I saw that happen
Um the stock intake manifold sounds like ****. How can you be proud of that horrid choking sound? Now with a VI on the other hand.......
Trust me the stock intake manifold sounds like garbage. The MEVI is much more smooth and refined. Yes, the stock setup with a short ram is aggressive sounding. Its probably the most aggressive and noisy intake ever. When I was 16 I thought that roar was king ****. I gues Ive grown up because its not pleasing to the ears in the slightest. I like a little throaty sound not the pulsating wail it produces.
i think 70% of the time after we install a new part on our car, we expect it to go fast and even with my drop in filter it feels like my car pulls hard, not just in the mid range but period, come on, maximas pull hard PERIOD

there i fixed that for you

there i fixed that for you

come on, why do you have to ruin the fun?? seriously though, i think maximas pull hard, especially harder than an accord, camry, civic, or any other four doors out there,(except STI's,EVo's, and other forced inducted four doors.) for real though, for a family sedan 4 door *****, it pulls nice. Think about the year comparison, dont think about the present day comparison. In 95-99, the maxima was better than a lot of SEDAN'S!!I REMEMBER MY POPS RACING AN ACURA LEGEND TYPE II IN OUR OLD MAXIMA!!! A 6-SPD V6 3.2, SUPPOSEDLY 230 HP and it couldn't hang with the MAXY!!! SO LIKE I SAID!!! MAXIMAS DO PULL HARD!!AND THEY ARE DECENT WHEN COMPARED TO THE PRESENT DAY CARS!!!
ITS ALL LOVE BABY, ALL LOVE!!

first picture on google.

But really i think your crazy to want a 200$ intake that has 2+hp over a 37$ shortram
also risking hydrolock, cutting the fender open, ect.

My friend has a 00vi + short ram on his 97. I have a 98 I30 with a CAI. I don't know why I just prefer my sound better but than his but that doesnt mean I don't want a 00vi. That 00vi pulls alot harder in those higher rpms especially in 2nd and 3rd gear when the needle passed 5k and slowly moves up.
I know I'm crazy do u know how low to the ground it actually is and cuttin the fender I could care less about and hydrolocking is why I wanna know how low to the ground it is cause if the plastics are in place water wouldn't get in there anyway correct?
im going to ignore that part about you not caring about hydrolocking.
it should be about 5 inches off the ground. should be right on topish of your splash guard. some people ive read about cut a small hole in the splash guard to let the bottom of the cone hang.
waters a funny thing, you never know what can happen with a car.

ive got a PR CAI and yes i would say to anyone that you would have to be crazy to buy it..i will say it looks nice under the hood but it doesnt yield any big power gains, its good off a start but not too good in the mid range to upper range. as far as hydrolocking the intake, unless you live somewhere flooding is bad it most likely wont happen unless you just plow right thrugh standing water..ive had my max dropped to the weeds before with the PR and never hydrolocked or anything like that.

I have a PR knock off. Didn't add anything but noise, which I knew. Only reason I have it is because I got it for $10 total. If you can't get it dirt cheap, I wouldn't bother.
EDIT: No that is not my car in the picture. I found the pic on here a while back and saved it for future use.
Where are all of the dynos showing how CAI kill your low end HP? Midpipes were the better of the 2 when looking at the dyno sheets. I just went back to my stock box with an Airhog filter and swiss cheesed my lower airbox. Nice sound and midrange is back. I did this about 6 years ago tho.
