Finally installed 2k2 HIDs
Finally installed 2k2 HIDs
I just wanted to thank Dixit (BigDogJonx) and Alex (IceY2k1) for their write-ups. They helped out a lot. I was supposed to have them in last week, but it rained the whole weekend. Anyhow, I went ahead and wired up the high-beams with Hella relays and fuses as Alex suggested and everything went without a hitch. The Xenon's were hooked up to a ground screw and the +12 off the H4 harness. The setup looks solid and there is no funny behavior. The relays fit in the empty spaces I had in the relay box that is just behind the driver side headlamp and there was even a space to rout wires in and out of it.
The new headlamps make the car look very aggressive.... Can't wait to do some night driving

hrm... i wired them up a lil differently.. for low beams i just powered them off using the existing 12v wire from the h4 harness and grounded the lights to the chassis. for the high beams i used two relays.. on one pin to power the relay u spliced into the existing h4 12v wire. on another pin i grounded it straight to the chassis, then on the 3rd pin i wired it to the high beam ground to get a signal to trip the relay. the final pin i wired it up to the negative side of the bulb.. to power the high beams i hooked a wire up directly from the postive battery terminal. no problems what so ever.. i'm happy.. and dixit's as well as alex' write up were great references.. i haven't used fuses for the bulbs yet but they'll come very shortly.

Mine are still stock... not clear.... I need more courage to pop open the lights
as for pics.... I need new digi cam
mingo, you wired the Low-beams same as me and the parking/blinker the same. For the highs, I hooked up two in-line 7.5A blade fuses straight from the battery and ran them through a wire tap to one of the high-beam wires and the other to the relay. Then, I hooked up the driver side H4 plug high-beam ground to both driver and passenger relays through another wire tap. This will be the circuit that when it gets ground from the harness will allow the switch to close. Then, the other two terminals of the relay go to the chassis ground pin and the high-beam plug. I tried using the passenger side harness's high beam ground, in one of the relays, but the light acted strange and the switch would not open sometimes to shut the light off. Using only the driver side hraness for the switched high-beam ground worked perfectly. Check out IceY2k1's relay setup... I think it is the exact same as that.
Anyhow, I did a little night driving just a few hours ago. Man, it is really a huge difference. The lights look great. I shoed them off to a couple of friends of mine and they thought they looked really nice. I think they may be aimed a little low, so I will have to play with it some more. I also had a small run-in with a Celica GTS... he was messing with me on the highway. I was behind him and he would floor it and I would keep up... he did this several times. We got up to a light side by side... Neither of us launched, but we gunned it and were side-by side... I took it up to only 5.5k rpm in first and then he shut it down

for the parking lights i wired up the positive lead on the parking lights directly to the 2k2 harness.. since the wire only went into the parking light.. and i shared the ground with the turn signals.. Matt.. i'm not sure if i should do a write up since i don't want to ofend anyone that has spent all their time on coming up with a write up.. but i'll be happy to answer questions..
as for the relays.. i made it a switch for the negative to prevent any feed back going anywhere. if there's any over draw i'll just blow a bulb at the most and i find that the safest way to go..
anyways those lights are awesome and i think they are more than worth it to get a set.

If I get the HIDs for my Altima, can you give me some help?

Drove a bit with them and they are great. I think they may be aimed slightly low, but I can fix that. Once you get your HID's let me know... we can definitely hook those guys up. Just let me know when
is it just me, or....
is anyone else alittle disappointed we only have half moon HID's? Seems like if the whole projector was used, we would have much more lighting. I realize you have to cap the top of the top of the beam, but other HIDs I see *look* like a circular reflector.

no worse than anyone else...
all I can see is that the vent tube is fairly large, as well as the shear volume of air in the housing. I've checked after driving in hard rain and no moisture. However, spray cold water on them on a warm day and it appears. I suspect that also applies to a cold morning as well. Its no biggie yet. I'm just going to wait and see what happens with 2k2 owners, they are the ones that have the ear of nissan on this.

Has anyone swapped out the high-beams for a set of PIAAs or something else? How about the other bulbs?

the half moon shape is to keep the ligths from blinding on comming traffic, but if you really wanna get the full moon effect you'll hafta take out your bulbs and carefully sand down the metalic paint on the bulb.. that's a light shield.. then your light will bounce all over the reflector..
dunno...
the reflector has the 'shelf' in there. I dont think modding the lamp would help.
I know you have to clip the top of the beam.. thats obvious, but look at other HIDs, they are generally a round reflector. I'm not saying I *think* we have less light because of this, I just wonder if it takes some away.
