I'm thinking it's time for a water pump replacement, but wanted to see some opinions.

The car gradually loses coolant, but there are no obvious coolant leaks (as in nothing on the ground). Leaks oil tho. There does not appear to be any coolant in the oil that leaks (and nothing on the dipstick), however when refilling, I'll see what looks like oil spots in the coolant as I'm burping the cooling system..
The car does not smoke when driven. It's still driven almost daily for the commute (35 miles one way- highway). It does not overheat (according to the temp gauge). When I have to refill the radiator, it'll take almost a half container of 50/50 most times. There are no leaks or smells from the heater core that I can detect.

its gotta be leaking.. the coolant system is a closed system so i was told... I recently epoxy'ed my radiator when i found a crack and its held the past 3 months just fine. havent lost a drop since.

 

try changing your radiator cap

 

I had the same case a small oil leak first then eventually a slow lost of coolant. Long story short I ended up with a blown head gasket with all my coolant in my oil pan. I swapped the 95 engine with 99 engine. Done Deal

 

it could be a fine crack like i have.. yeah it kinda split back open today... but hey my poxy job held for a good amount of time... if its a pressure leak like mine itll only leak when you drive it and than youll find it all over in your bay..

 

Radiator cap is good. No steam from the rad. It was replaced two years ago as well. The loss is very gradual. Hoses are okay. I've got a small oil slick in my parking space and at the house, but no sign of coolant mixed in or leaking beside it.
Thanks for your feedback, guys. I just wanted to see what other people think. I have another vehicle so this is now my fun/project car and I'll drive it until it blows up then do a swap. Right now, it sure doesn't drive like it will blowup anytime soon!

I have the same problem..maybe once a month ill have to add water,my resevor? seems to run low from time to time...

i think you would know if oil is mixing with coolant. the engine would'nt sound so quiet, and the oil would look like chocolate milk.

 

I have the same problem, hairline crack on top, I epoxy'd it, but it did not hold. Coolant sprays all over the bay. I ducttaped it up, and just kept adding coolant. Made it to San Jose and back to L.A. like this. I put some stop leak in it, stopped it for a sec, but also did not stop. Now, there is a leak by the belts, which seems to be a point to the waterpump. But I add coolant and it just keeps going. There is some steam coming out from that point, but I think it's just coolant/heat escaping from under the duct tape.

I've epoxied radiators before. You have to make sure you get it CLEAN. Drain the coolant, and remove the old epoxy. I don't know if you've ever felt antifreeze before, but its slick, like oil. That's bad for the adhesion of the epoxy. Once you get the old epoxy off, clean the area with a synthetic steel wool pad to rough it up a bit and give the epoxy something to bond to. Then use 91% rubbing alcohol and clean the area where you are going to apply the epoxy. do this multiple times, DO NOT touch the plastic after it is cleaned for the last time. Mix up the two part and apply. WAIT 24 hours then refill the coolant system and drive.

Oh, and stop leak is bad. Just a band aid.

 

great! thanks man, yeah I just slapped it on last time, I think the radiator was still hot *d'oh* so I'll let it cool off. Do you think I need a thermostat? I don't think I do, but been reading alot online about that junk.

 

some time its the coolet 50/50 means water coolet duh right well the water part evap

 

Okay, You cant fix a radiator; i dont care what anybody says; the only fool proof way to fix a radiator is to throw it in the dumpster.
