Stillen rear sway bar - Worth the upgrade?

Hi all,

I currently own a 09' sport+tech Maxima and I'm debating whether the Stillen rear sway bar is worth the upgrade. From my conversation with a Stillen rep, the upgraded bar is only 1mm greater in diameter (21mm vs. 22mm) but does have a thicker side wall (increasing rigidity).

Those who have gone ahead with this upgrade, do you think it improves handling enough to recommended the purchase?

Thanks,
TB.

Hmmm, the brochure says the sway bar /w the sport tuned suspension (Sports Package) is 26.5mm as compared to the base model 25.4mm, so I wonder where he's getting 21 vs 22mm from? Mind you, I'm in Canada, but I doubt they would be different?

I also read a post somewhere on the forum from someone who said the OEM sway bars are not solid, not sure if that's true or not.

I too would like to see some real evidence that backs up the claims of the difference, before I decide to invest in these upgrades...Mind you the cost of these upgrades is not much, especially if you decide to install them yourself, so if you decide to try it and notice some nice gains, then +++, if not well your a few hundred $$ out...

Ok, I just realized I dunno how to attach the brochure, how the frigg does one do that?

I believe the 26.5mm bar is the dimension for the sports package front sway bar not the rear.
The Stillen rear anti sway bar reduces the horizontal movement and increases the turn in(less understeer) of the 09 Maxima, but not by much.

Yup, you're right, I misread the brochure...

I'm located in Canada too, and this is ultimately why I've posted this. The RSB on the Stillen site is only $144 USD with free shipping to the US, but after taxes/brokerage/shipping it comes up to about $225 at my door .
Due to the higher costs (for me), I want to know from those who have it if they think it's worth it.

Yes, for ~$150, the sway bar is WELL worth it. to compare to OEM, the stillen weighs much more, if not solid, close to it. The OEM is very hollow and has the feel that you can bend it yourself.

On highway on ramps, I can take these much faster and more solidly. On the twisty roads, Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. for normal driving, you will feel that the car is more solid/grounded feel to it.

I still have my OEM bar, maybe I need to bring this to meets and let people F with it

I would like to do this upgrade but would also like a front sway bar, seems like it's never gonna happen

You might want to wait a little while....if you haven't read this yet, check this out..http://forums.maxima.org/7th-generat...s-stillen.html

Racingline's sway bars will come /w the polyurethane bushings, which is what you will definitely want if you're gonna upgrade bars. Isn't Racingline Canadian?

Thanks for the topic. I was wondering if I would really notice a difference by installing this product. I think I will for sure be picking one of these up. Thanks for the comparison image!

I no longer have my maxima, but I did take it to the Tail of the Dragon with the stillen sway and front tower brace on. The car just isn't a sporty handling car. Is it better than stock, heck yea! Will it keep up with say a Civic in the corners, no chance. Just cause Nissan labeled the car a 4DSC, doesn't make it so

I have to kindly disagree with your statement above. I have the same suspension mods as you and I felt the main limitations were the stock tires (Eagle RS-A's) and stock brake pads. Saying that it won't keep up with a Civic (was this an Si or a modded base?) in the corners is a bit ridiculous. I was pulling AWAY from a few 370Z's and keeping pace with them as well at ZDayZ back in May this year on the Dragon and the Hellbender.

Now if you've driven hard-core sports cars your entire life, I can see how you might have this opinion. I've driven C6 ZO6 Vettes, Vipers, Z's, etc and yeah, they all make the Max seem like it handles like a boat. I agree that the "4DSC" sticker is silly and should be taken off immediately. But let's compare apples to apples and not to avocados.

Is your SV a sport package? I have an SV Tech package and was thinking about replacing front and rear bars if its fairly inexpensive and easy to do, but if the mods only matter when the rest of the car is built for performance then I don't want to waste the money.
