brake parts depending on build date

Ok, i need a new rear caliper for my 01. build date on the car is 10/00. when looking at advance auto parts site, it says that its either two different calipers, ones for different build dates, before 10/00 or from 10/00. First question is which one do i need then? because technically mine was built IN 10/00 lol. my guess would be the from 10/00 and unfortunately its the more expensive one, of course. also, what is the real difference, the newer calipers are 20 bux more so why couldnt i just use the cheaper ones?

Get the cheaper one and compare it to the one on your car. If it won't work, then return it and get the other one.

Or....call dealer and match your VIN to the parts date. Then order the correct caliper from Advance Auto.

If you are getting the calipers AND brackets, it probably doesn't matter. If your not, it probably does.

Any reason you don't just order the right (FROM 10/01) ones and be done with it?

Is your time really worth less than that $20 to order the wrong parts, try them, and then go back to get the right ones?

Again a simple call to the dealer parts counter with your VIN will solve this entire mystery....

Why does everyone take the hard road?

called the dealer and he said to go with the from 10/00 one, but he didnt really know the difference. took old one off, went into advance and compared the three. only difference was the grooves in the piston so i just got the cheaper one and it works just fine, no difference in size or anything really. and as a matter of fact yes, my time is worth the $20. i would rather spend 2 hrs on a 1 hr job to save the 20 bux
