O/D light blinking and more
O/D light blinking and more
Ok i got a 2000 max with 187k on it, tonight on my way to worcester mass...(35 miles from home) i was driving at 68 mph and my O/D light started rapidly blinking and the car actually started going in and out of overdrive, once i got off the highway and was under 65 it stopped...also while the light was flashing my rpm gauge would drop to dead 0 unless my foot was on the brake! Any ideas?
The speedo is driven by a signal from the vehicle speed sensor which means that the signal was lost for the time that the speedo went to zero. The VSS signal is also sent from the speedo cluster to the ECM. But with the other things that you've mentioned there may also be something else going on. The one common component it seems is the TCM with the OD light (the fault), the brake switch, the cruise control all being directly connected electrically to the TCM. The TCM's primary vehicle speed signal comes from the revolution speed sensor with the speedo signal as the backup for vehicle speed. See if you can get it to repeat......you may yet get the MIL light to come on with a stored fault. The VSS is the higher up of the two sensors in the tranny case and is the gear driven one. Check the harness connector for the two sensors at the main tranny harness for being clean and fully seated.
ok so as of today my cruise control works fine, no more blinking o/d light, BUT now i got a shutter sound coming from the from passenger side,i think my max seen better days....188k and the motor runs MINT but it seems everything else is going...any ideas on the shutter sound?
im about 45 minutes from hartford, im currently working in south windsor on addison rd....2000 black on blacki ripped off the wheels today...appears my passenger half shaft is F**ked....not to mention a bunch of other things.....now i remember why i dont like looking around under the car for problems LOL anyone got parts they wanna sell i need an ARRAY of items...
I did my passnger side axle about a year ago,Seperating it from the inside shaft is a *****. The axle from autozone was somewhere around $120 with a lifetime warrentee. You must be over the 150000 miles mark that is where the cv joint boots go.I hate to throw this at you but if you haven't yet check the boots on the driver's side.
thats pretty funny actually...i just bought a pass side for 70 BRAND new not remaned...and the drivers side is torn...been torn longer than the pass side, fortunately for me, im getting the whole assembly not just the joint..
