rusted magnaflow junk....

i put this cat on a little over a year ago, friggin thing is rusted real bad on the underside as well as the flange ends ( look at pics ) flaking rust horribly. i put my stock cat back on after this pos failed emissions last feb/09. the stock one passed, thank god. anybody have any recommendations for a replacement high flow cat that is emissions passable, ( i have a 95 ) and that wont rust??? i have a warpspeed y, with a monza cattback.

Cattman has one for sale in the vendor section. FastCat I believe. not sure on the rust resistance of that unit. I don't know anyone who makes a stainless steel shelled catalytic converter that won't rust. Not all stainless steel is "rust proof"

I guess you could use some high heat paint on it... maybe wrap it with exhaust wrap but still.... if there is an open spot of metal, it will rust.

I just bought one of these, hope it don't crap out that quick. Maybe a special paint or ceramic coating would prevent this.

I'm in the northeast and have a magnaflow high-flow cat..mine doesn't' look like that. Did they make an SS and a non-SS version or something? Mine's SS.

But yeah, definitely hit up the car wash often and wash your underbody during the winter months.

I read somewhere that you can coat it with barbacue paint..it will withstand the heat and not burn off.

If you do go down that route let us know..my cat needs replacing as well.

trust me dude, its rusted enough that it took an hour to get it off of the car. bolts looked like they came off of a shipwreck. it was a waste of a $100.00, and it cost me $106.00 plus tax to get a waiver last year for emissions. thats 220.00 i could've used on a stainless cat and wish i did.

Did you contact Magnaflow about their lifetime warranty? Technically, it may not be suffering from "defects in materials or workmanship", but it's worth a shot.

Just buy a $30 test pipe from ebay, you'll only be out $30 if it rust.
