power antenna - wanting to go stubby for cheap.

i want to spend no more than $50 on getting a stubby antenna. i like the s2k/350z look, but i heard it's tough to get everything i need.

anyone have a stubby? how hard was it to mount and wire up?

i found a link to this one i kinda like, would it work? thanks,

tyler

it looks like it just grounds to the chassis and plugs into the antenna jack.

it also looks like that one is designed to mount to a flat surface like the roof antennas i dont know how well it would fit on the curved surface of the quarter panel

turn radio on
wait for antenna to come up to full
turn radio off
wait for it to get down as short as you would like it (6" or whatever)
pull the power plug out of it, keep the signal plug connected

it will then stay at whatever height it was at when it was unplugged

free, DIY, completely reversible stubby antenna.

I used the radio without the antenna up (left the antenna wire disconnected), worked well in Houston, but in Manhattan, KS where the radio stations are miles and miles away... not so well....

If you have Bose, you have another antenna in the rear window, so you could disconnect/break off the manual antenna.

Mine hasnt gone down the last 6" since I bought the car (as you can probably see in my sig) and I've had a spare mast for 2 years now, without enough motivation to replace it.

That's the same thing that happened to me. Something happened with the motor and it just kept running without the antenna moving so I just disconnected the power because I was sick of hearing it run when I started and stopped the car. Mine's been that way for a while now. It's my own version of a stubby antenna.

+1 - Yaas, If it don't go down, push it down and forget it. Unless you only need AM radio, FM is received by the window antenna. I pushed mine down after last winter... looks great and sounds great, too. ;}

I like my power antenna because I never use it and it stays hidden with the use of my ipod. I just had the place that put my stereo in replace it with a OEM one I got from my dealership, they installed it for $10, which was nice because the old one I had was the stock one that was broke in half, and bent backwards when we got the car.
