Blown speakers. How do i fix it?

Hello,

I have a set of speakers where the rubber surround is blown (torn). Is there a way to salvage this or am i just better off throwing them away? It's already been too long since the warranty died out.

I can't afford a new one at this point and would like a way to get this back in shape again.

Any help appreciated. Thanks

- Mike

You're joking i presume?

Seriously, is that possible? I was thinking of just gluing it back together. The tear is approximately 1/4 of an inch only.

actually i'm not....tape it up real good inside and out...generally with a rip it'll rattle...tape it up and it's a temporary fix until u can buy another set...no kidding...

torn surround

Just how special are these speakers to you?

As you can repair minor tears with RTV with some success or you can repair the surround with new surround offered by;

http://www.partsexpress.com/

http://www.newfoam.com

but the new surround is almost as expensive as new speakers and they would have to be some pretty decent speakers in the 1st place to justify the cost of repair.

I've personally done sets of 6.5", 8" and a couple 15" subs in which case $30 was cheaper than new speakers.

The speakers aren't really that special to me but back then it did cost a pretty penny. Even if i replace it with similar ones today it's still quite cheaper for me to have them fixed i guess (based on those sites i checked).

Since it's just a small tear on the rubber there is no "inside" for me to mess around with.

I super-glued it and so far it seems to be holding up. I'll wait until this afternoon to test them out and see if glue can handle the stress when the thing starts pounding. (i doubt it will but oh well, worth a try)

Thanks for the tips peeps!
