Did you have to measure and reshim both shafts in order to get proper alignment?

I'm putting an HLSD from my old tranny into a 6th gen tranny, and I'm wanting to know if you or anybody know's how to measure this in order to reshim it. I guess if both final drives are the same then you probably wouldn't have to do this, but any insight would help.

SR20DEN installed a new 6th gear and had some grinding on startups from his starter, and we narrowed it down to a shimming issue. I'd like to avoid this grinding at startup if possible.

Nice work by the way, some are scared to crack open a tranny, at least it's not an automatic. LOL

Here's my blown 1st gear.

Sorry, didn't mean to impose on your thread and what you've done. Just wanted to share your pain.

Are you wondering about the potential for rust or something vs the use of a solvent?

Since you had it torn down, did you change the final drive or anything? Sorry if I missed that....As soon as it warms up (actually got snow in Memphis), I'm going to through another auto (RE4FO4A) into my wife's daily, a '93 Altima. Stocker has a 3.59 final but the '00 autos had 4.08 and shorter 1-3 gears. Should make for a fun combo....

Wish I had the time to do a teardown like that!

Thank goodness my daughter's boyfriend's dad owns a transmission shop, I'll have an expert do this if I ever blow out my gears.
