Help plz Question regarding in dash tvs

I'm trying to figure out how to play music videos on my in dash tv. I downloaded some music videos(avi format) and tried to play them but my tv said it couldn't recognize the file type. Any ide a to why my in dash cannot play this file type? Is it because the tv doesn't have any codecs or is avi the incorrect file type...

If it helps I have a pioneer avh-p3100

stupid question, do you have the p3100 Bypassed? if not the unit will not play video (built in safety function for all indash video players).

Avic411.com should help further

the majority of indash screens will NOT play .avi's, they aren't like a computer that can read multiple formats. I thought this was pretty common knowledge?

It more than likely it will only play a DVD format such as MPEG2, with some other compressed audio, can't remember the exact format, but its what most DVD players can read that are not Divx capable like the ones that are more recently being made..

edit: now that I read the manual I guess that is a DivX capable unit. Interesting..

its probably because you're trying to play it from a USB, or the videos weren't encoded with DivX. I'd try putting them on DVDs first.
