Metra 70-7551

This is neither here nor there, just wanted to whine about how hard is was to find this particular wiring harness. Spent this past weekend calling and driving around trying to find, NOBODY had it. Advance and AZ both told me it's not available in their catalog. The "professional car stereo shops" wanted to sell me a 7550 and two line level boxes from Peripheral.

Anyway, I found it throu a company called Sonic Electronics, $25 shipped, and it showed up in 4 business days. Just a heads up for anybody else that might be having difficulty trying to get the necessary harness.

Available on Amazon

Price varies by seller, but readily available.
Metra's dash kits and other harnesses are there too for not too bad a price.

Nice to know I took it deep and hard. The standard harness was $14.99 locally. Now that I see how it was made, hell, I coulda made it myself using the 7550 harness and an old set of RCA's. I solder for a living so that wouldn'tve been a problem, add some heat shrink, done.

Next time I'll research harder.

ive bought stuff off sonicelectronix.com a few times their prices for amps and other equipment were really cheap compared to some other places. im looking to get an amp (kenwood 9104D) in the near future from them thats $180 and basically every where else is over $200. they do ship fast too.

A little off topic...

How many volts is the factory Bose in an 07 max sending to the on-speaker amps?
I am looking to buy a double din navigation, but have found that only the top of the line decks have higher than 2v pre-outs. I plan on using the stock bose speakers for a few months until it warms up here and I want to make sure I will be able to get about the same volume level with the new deck.

I was hoping to only spend about $1000 for the whole package (NIRD, dashkit, steering wheel controls, sirius adapter, etc), so I may have to sacrifice and go with lower output preouts.

Any thoughts?

Bose line out voltage? PAC Audio OEM-2

Converts speaker level outputs to line-level outputs, which should resolve hooking any head unit into the Bose amplifiers.

HA! So you'd rather take a low level input that already exists, and convert an eq'ed and crossed over high level input with an adaptor?

Better to splice rca cables directly into the head unit speaker wire outputs, those are low level already.

My preference would be not to do that, but his head unit choice has been made already it seems, and there's a device that's made to address that issue, but it looks like splicing's another option.

When facing the same issue, I chose a head unit with 5v outputs.

I still haven't decided on a HU. All of my previous decks have been SQ decks (the one the car I just sold was an Eclipse 7200mkII) so it is very hard for me to wrap my head around spending $1k on a HU that has low volt preouts and barely any processing, much less time correction.
Unfortunately I drive to so many different places for work that navigation really has become a priority for me in this car, so I am trying to pick the best of the disappointing DD/Nav units.

Why is it so hard to make a deck with nav and halfway decent SQ features for less than $1500-2000?

I think I am going to go with an Alpine INA-W900 with a PXA-H100 (Audyssey processor and increases preouts to 4v). I just found out one the rep firms I do business with is also the area's Alpine rep, so I can get everything at cost.

I just hope the ugly thick face of the deck isn't going to stick out from the dash too far and look too fugly.

~ Now I'm off to find pictures of the W505 or W900 installed in some Maximas to make sure it will look alright.

Ouch ! Hope you never need servicing and are Very patient with waiting for product to actually arrive !

The '4 Volt' claimed output you will never seen until well after clipping.

lol, typical Don, bashing Alpine.

I had to be getting 4v out of my last Alpine, and it seemed a helluva lot more powerful than my Eclipse 6620 with 5v outs, so

tis true. Scope proof would shut me up. You checked a PXA-h100? Its all about how it sounds to you (the consumer) in the end though.

The Eclipse 5v seemed very weak to me, I've heard nothing but praises about Eclipse's 5v preouts. I'm still waiting on my preout connector to come from United Radio so I can compare the 726e to the 6620. The quality of DACs and caps in this deck are suppose to be better, we'll see.

Nope, several heads though. Send me a HU and I will scope and print for ya.

Never had a problem with the Eclipse 5/8V heads UNTIL the 726e. Epic fail there. They shot themselves in the foot on that one.

Just also remember to look at the more important number ... impedance.

lol, figures. Oh well, its a sexier piece. I'll deal. I'm stepping out of car audio and into home soon anyways

Suuuure... I finally make some headway after beating my head against the wall to find something decent and close to my price range, and you come along talking about actual scientific repeatable tests that say the deck is crap.

At least the deck, bt adapter, and H100 will fall in my budget and I am very familiar with Audyssey (although mostly with the pro products).

I should know more next week after the new deck arrives.

No problem. I have to take more factors into consideration on this deck than strictly SQ. I figure with Burrbrown's and MultiEQ XT it can't be too bad.

If nothing else I can rig it up to try and get my Audyssey pro mics and software working to tweak it.

Bear in mind the vast majority out there uses 'Burr Browns' TI products vary though and it is not the hype it once was to utilize BB. I would be more curious though to know which BBs are used since perhaps a AD or NS may be equivalent or superior, but without the fancy BB name.

I have never, nor will I ever be a fan of auto eq'ing in the vehicle. Regardless of equipment. I used currently an H900 Alpine, formerly a H990 with my previous setup. I have a handful of mics from Shure, Behringer and AKG, I still have yet to plug any in for auto tune. Just simply doesnt not make sense for a car.

Then again I hardly use (unless requested) an RTA for tuning a vehicle either.
