Aackshun's 1/4 Miles...

I figured I'd start my own thread

Mods were the same (kinda) for both runs:

Warpspeed Y
High Flow Cat
Underdrive Pulley
Short Shifter
Cone filter attached to stock intake

Best up in Kansas (Kansas City International Raceway):

60ft: 2.426 (Acheived w/ a 2k dump and tires were @ 30psi)
330ft: 6.587
1/8th: 10.005
mph: 71.67
1000ft: 12.943
1/4: 15.402
mph: 92.38

For these runs I switched to the Bomz SRI (I broke my cone filter to maf adapter)

Best so far (Acheived at Houston Raceway Park)

60ft: 2.3077 (Same technique but tires were @ 25 psi)
330ft: 6.377
1/8th: 9.747
mph: 73.90
1000: 12.638
1/4: 15.072
mph: 91.70

//EDIT!
I neglect to mention why these times were so slow, two reasons, driver error, and a failing front end suspension, I was getting terrible wheel hop off of the line because of my power steering leak eating up my bushings and other front end components, I've since replaced these things but have yet to been back to the track.

I only have videos of my worst runs.

But here's a 15.6 @ KCIR (Missed 3rd)
http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...t=DSCN1075.flv

and a 17.1 @ HRP (No traction till 3rd)

Word.

I'll probably hit the track again after I dyno and get new front tires late march.

Question... I've been poking around reading more here and came across some interesting numbers, I see 4th gen owners weigh in around 30xxlbs, but the track scale @ HRP said I was 2940lbs that day, is this accurate for my 4th gen?

Do you have leather, power seats, sunroof? Was that with spare tire/jack and full interior?

If that was without you in it, it's probably pretty accurate.

Yes....

Leather, Power Seats, Sunroof, no spare tire+jack and no fog lights, + Me(250lbs) in the car = 2940

Only thing I can contribute is that I was extremely low on fluids.. Gas and Coolant to be specific.

In that case, no, it's not accurate. There's no way you have a 2700lb 4th gen without doing significant weight reduction.

Thought so... and then my friend's 5th gen SE 5 speed vq35 swap weighed in @ 34xxlbs

I went to HRP Friday night and the scale was "inop/broken/out of service" I was trying to weigh my 3rd Gen...The last time I was out there the scale was right on...I had a physical performed and My doc measured my weight and I told them their scale was off...and that nite I weighed the car with me in it and out of it, the weight difference was 210 lbs...my Doc's scale was right after all! My 5th gen was 3310 w/o me in it!

I'm getting the car ready for it's return to the track... Question, what tires??

I'm looking @ 225/45/17 Drag radials, I think these should do fine for my current power. What sizes do the "gurus" reccomend?

Just re-read this, I'm stickin to my story that my car is in the 2700lb range, because why would all my other friend's cars be the right weight except for mine?

Not on the track, because I did not know what poor condition my front end was in for those runs. The bushings were all worn out everywhere (LCAs, Sway bars, etc), after I fixed that, 90% of my wheel hop went away, even with a blown rear motor mount still.

Not exactly a dump, but not a slip in (like sparks to say), it's kind of both, I let up slowly and as soon as the car gets moving (like maybe a foot) i let it go, check my youtube for a video of me and a accord, you can't see it but you can hear it, the only other good video of me out of a hole was the dig run part 3, but my KS failed by then and obviously I bogged off that launch.

So far with the LSD, I need more practice but it's all futile because of my KS being bad, it's easy as hell to launch it right now, 2k, dump then the car just takes off fine....

After some "track" runs tonight on my regular street tires, I think I will end up buying the 225/45 DR's. I think with the combination of the LSD and Lightweight flywheel it makes launching much easier.

Slicks ftw!

Drag radials are not gonna let you launch the car nearly as hard.

Hmm, this kid in SA has a 99 se with similar mods other than a axle back exhaust and he's running high 14's. What your reaction times? I ran a 16 flat with auto trans, cheap bald tires, broken axles, and with my engine temp being a tad bit higher than normal...

iI think u should get some 15 or 16in steelies or some type of lighter weight (lighter than ur current wheels) and get some kinda drag radials, that should help out a bit on ur launches...

I will have yours, I wasn't too sure about shaving the calipers down at the time (haven't met you then!), the rims were the right weight and width, so I am still satisfied with my purchase.

I still can't find a good price for slicks used or new that will fit into my budget, and my second set of rims NEEDs tires, the real question I am asking is... Is it worth it to buy the drag radials, or just some good summer tires??? If I find slicks in time, I find slicks and get em... But, summer tire or drag radial?

Yeah, it will be hard to find a slick to fit a 16" or 17" wheel.
If you could fit a 15" wheel, then you can find slicks for days.

If the choice is between drag radials or summer tires, definitely go for the drag radials. More grip is never a bad thing.

Gotcha, yah if I had 15s i'd be like my friend who AutoX's his miata all the time and have a room dedicated to slicks.

Now that I think about it, I know someone giving away his 16s, just can't find a wheel big enough to fit em lol.

You drive drive a 4th gen Nissan Maxima, its not that different from my 4th gen Maxima. Have you ever tried launching with and without a LW flywheel? Less rotational wieght will cause your car to bog if you attempt to launch the same as a stock flywheel. It not the same. Search and you will see what the general concensus is regaurding launching a 4th gen with LW flywheel. You know what I may be wrong you may not have a single problem launching your car with one. This is not the first time we have not agreed and I am sure it wont be the last. I hope it works out for you. Once you get your 60' lower you will see much better ET and Traps

Fact: Less rotational weight on the fw = less potential energy to drive the tires.

Can't argue with that, solid fact.

The same launch on the 6mt LW flywheel = some hope for traction, the launch on the stock 5mt = NO HOPE.

Yes, it's my fault, could have done better, but it's the style I've become accustomed too, but don't worry I will try many different types of shifts and launches at the track in two weeks, last few times I did the slip I was not terribly successful at beating my best '60 (even though I came close to it and the car was much more behaved)

Also, don't get the 5mt lw fw confused with the 6mt lw fw, I'm only shaving off a few lbs

Stock 5mt = 19lbs (I think)
Stock 6mt = ~35lbs
LW 5mt = 12lbs
LW 6mt = 15lbs

I still prefer the car's behavior now then before, I feel like it can lead to more success in the future for me, we'll find out in about two weeks at the Houston meet, we're all going to the track!! I can't wait, it's been sooo long!!!

Totally forgot when I posted that. Nice job on the swap also. It has been a long time since someone has CLEARLY documented their progress. I cant wait to get to the track myself.

Well, got a good start with the 6mt, still have work to do, but it was a good night out with the Texas guys.

With some maintence issues and terrible tires here's what I scraped together.

No video!
Top times from today:
60ft 2.31
330ft 6.26
1/8th 9.55 @74.6
1000ft 12.39
1/4 mile ET 14.79 @ 94.14

60ft 2.32
330ft 6.30
1/8th 9.59 @ 75.06
1000ft 12.44
1/4 mile 14.85 @ 93.26

60ft 2.34
330ft 6.31
1/8th 9.61 @ 74.85
1000ft 12.46
1/4 Mile 14.87@ 93.3

I managed to get another 14.79 with a 2.29 60ft somewhere, I just can't find the slip, but I have the video.

Tires were @ 30 psi the whole night, didn't feel like dropping the pressure, just busy having fun racing Max_Dreamer's rental

I really feel like there's more in this car, just need to get more seat time with the 6spd, I can't quite do 2nd->3rd like I used to.

Vids soon, I'll re-edit this post and bump the thread whenever the finish uploading.

Not bad man. Those 60fts are killing you! You should be able to get some 2.1 60fts with even crappy street tires.

I'm pulling 2.1 60fts with my crappy nexens. lol

lol one side is a pirelli p6, and the other is a falken ziex 512, and both of them were @ 30 psi, just found those tires for $5 a piece needed something to roll around in until I put on the drag radials, then it's on

If I dont get a 60 below 2.0 I will inflict pain upon myself.

//edit
