make sure you do it in a warm place because if the glue is too cold then it will be really hard to get off.
just put the dental floss or fishing line beind the letters and start "sawing" them off. go back and forth. eventually the badge will come away from the car.
now you need to get the rest of the glue off. just get Goo Gone and squirt it on the remaining glue. rub it away with a cloth (dont use anything that might scratch the paint like a brillow pad or the rough part of a sponge) it took me a long time to get the glue off before i realized it was way too could outside so i set up a heater right next to me in the garage.

i dunno about the WD80 stuff. never heard of it. is it something different than WD40?

yeah you can but dont point the hair dryer at the same place for a long time. getting it too hot can be bad. just get the glue warm enough so its sort of soft.

If I decide I want to put the lettering back on, can i still do that?
I just did this last weekend, as the back of my 01 AE/SE looked to cluttered, DO NOT use a heat gun! This resulted in the adhesive hardening and was far worse to remove, I sat in the driveway with a rag and Goo-be-gone and Goof-off and a fingernail for quite some time before trying something more drastic. Soak a rag in above solvent of choice then use a plastic ATM or credit card to scrape off the glue, worked great and didn’t harm the paint. I buffed it and waxed it when finished. (Yes, use fishing line (20lb)).
how could a heat gun cause the adheisive to harden? heating the glue will make it softer. cooling the glue will make it harden. i dont recommend using a heat gun. thats is probably too hot and may harm your paint.
i sort of explained it before but this is exactly what i did:
used regular old dental floss to saw the letters off (i didnt have fishing line and this works just as well)
then set up a heater next to me to bring the temp around me up to 7o or 80 degrees
then i soaked the remaining glue in Goo Gone
then i used a rag and just rubbed the glue away
after all that i waxed it and buffed it.
you can follow Proceedbob's instructions but i think the ATM card is a risky idea. you dont want to use anything hard that may scrape the paint at all. just in case.

Yes, yes it does. One would think heat would soften the glue but that was not my experience, the soft gummy adhesive turned into something-resembling dried shellac. The plastic card did not harm the paint one bit, although the Goof-Off acted as a lubricant.
