Gas mileage.....issue??

Well what's up everyone. I had a blown head gasket and I had to replace it which is a big job. Long story short I never got to drive this car before I worked on it so I'm not sure what it's supposed to get as far as gas mileage. As of now the beat I've gotten is like 22mpg. I kno I have a egr cel and not sure how to fix it but.

22 mpg is within the normal range. People usually get 20-30 mpg.

Your EGR code is probably from a clogged up. Gotta take it out and clean it:

I don't remember cutting a stud I just got at the nut with a socket

22 is pretty low if its mostly highway. EGR shouldn't effect gas mileage, so its most likely not that. Do a search, there's like 100 threads on gas mileage in the 4th gen section. Off the top of my head I'd say tune up, O2 sensors, knock sensor, exhaust leaks.... have fun

Yea that's what suks, like I said I pretty much rebuilt the whole top end. In doin so I put new coil packs, spark plugs, full gasket kit, water pump, all that good stuff. My buddy tells me not. Complain and blames it on the 4 speed auto tranny. But damn I get like 320 miles on a tank of gas and I've gotta really try to get it to get that kinda mileage. But thanks I will start doing some sherlock holmes stuff now

Bad knock sensor will retard timing and kill mileage. This will set a code but WILL NOT trigger the check engine light. Did you run a diagnostic to find your EGR code? Were there no other codes??

no i do have a CEL, and one of the cels is for my egr.. i also did reset it and got worse gas mileage cause i kept reseting it after it triggered so in other words the car had to relearn everything again and finally got tired of doing so and now i just run with the cel on..the knock sensor is pretty new, i went to a junk yard and remembered i needed one and the only cars there that hadnt been stripped of the kock sensors was the altima after close inspection it appeared to be the same.. keep in mind after i first got the car back togather i put prolly 300 miles on it and i finally got the cel
