Just bought a clean one owner 2000 infiniti I30 with 82k, just finished my first tank and got 380 miles before the low fuel light came on, probably 80% highway miles. Is that normal for a A33?

Miles to the tank mean nothing. Divide the miles you traveled by the amount of gallons you put back in. That will give you Miles Per Gallon. I average between 24 and 27 on mixed driving. Never gotten above 30 though.

that not to bad i do mixed driving moslty highway though and i only get 300 to the tank

 

I KNOW for a fact I get less than 20 to the gallon
Constant stop/go driving and when I get on the freeway or open road I'm usually flooring it. Of course my car is in need of new tires, new oil, and a tune up so im sure those play into it as well

 

just wondered because consumer reports said range for a tank was 475!
and during the test drives they averaged 27 mpg (14/32)
from what i'm seeing here that kind of mileage doesnt last long. I had a 97 I 30 and it seemed to do a little better but the average mpg rating was lower?

i get average of 24mpg, when i first bought it i was getting 21-22mpg. then i did teh spark plugs jumped up to 25-26..then came back down to 24mpg...there was one time though, went on a trip to savannah..got two tanks at 29mpg and yes, i jammed it full both times, so the reading was accurate...and suprising

 

well ya the 97 to 00 changed alot it gain power an some weight but i got 18.25 my last fill up

 

380 is about average... probably right around 22 mpg... It depends on alot of factors, like how clean the engine's running (do plugs, filters, and all fluids if you just got it and a bottle of Techron or a SeaFoam treat never hurts), if its winter gas, and mainly how you drive... I've pushed 500 before out of mine, but its alot of gentle highway driving and going til ur basically on fumes.

Should add I have a 2000 SE 5spd with iridium ix's and a K&N that only drinks premium unleaded 35psi all around on 17" stock size yokos.

I often do 20-22mpg delivering pizza around town with tons of idling.

The 475 miles to the tank consumer reports gives is measured with pure highway driving. Also, being on a highway does not mean highway driving. Highway driving is constant 60 mph in the right lane with zero brakes and minimal throttle change. It's a bit less than 26 mpg on these cars. A mix of around town driving and highway ventures usually gives around 22-24 mpg on a Maxima... which would be about 352 - 384 miles from full to the light. I'd say you're doing pretty well.

As for me, I usually have to fill up right at 300

But I can get to 60 in just under 5 seconds.

 

Usually 27 mixed. 30 all highway. 5 speed.

 

I get about 270 miles to a tank. 70% highway. I have a heavy foot as well.

People who get 400 miles to a tank must drive like my grandmother...

 

I'll occaisionally just kinda float along like grandma, specially on road trips with the fam along for the ride... If you've got a stick shift coasting in gear makes a world of difference in my car, mileage wise.

 

With 169k miles, automatic, the most I've averaged is 28 mpg, pure highway, at 75 mph average on flat Florida roads. Mixed city/hwy is 21-22 mpg. I also think you are doing pretty good. I typically get around 340 miles to the tank, down to the E mark.

 

You know you should never let the gas light come on, right? If you run your tank down that low, your fuel pump is no longer submerged in fuel to keep it cool. I've seen lots of pumps burned up because of this.

filled up this morning went 390 miles took 15.33 gal. to fill. that averages out to 25.44
Just added some seafoam to the gas and put in my AFE dry flo S filter from the 97 I30 and it fit! (love infiniti/nissan). I'll keep you updated on the results of this next tank

 

You can see my average in my sig. It includes a month or more where my thermostat was stuck open and mileage dropped a lot. Although i did manage 26.7MPG averaging about 70mph on a trip from Sacramento to LA when the thermostat was stuck. Return trip was at 85mph and mileage dropped to 24.7.

22-25 is normal for me best was 27. Car is an 01 AE SE with 5spd

yea really annoys me, some of you guys manage some high numbers.. I guess I need to drive more carefully.

 

only times my MPG went below 20 was when my thermostat was stuck open and the car would never get fully warm. Since I replaced it MPG has never gone below 20 including a tank with 80% + city driving and some pretty aggressive driving.

Heck I averaged somewhere around 15mpg in a 92 explorer with 190k on it in LA.

Basically i think there is something wrong with your right foot or your car.

 

It depends on auto and manual too. I do a lot of highway commute and my best was MPG probably 25.3 with cruise set at 63mph.

 

this is so comforting to know i'm not the only one getting 'low' gas mileage...my brother use to have a 4th gen and bragged on how high of mileage he use to get and made me feel bad

 

2K2 6 speed, 149K miles and I get 26-28 city and a hair over 30 on the hwy. But I am one that keeps the psi 32-35, constant rotate/balance 6k. Seafoam works wonders

for all the people that refer to seafoam on there...
a question for you..
from what i recall one time looking at it in the store the mfg of seafoam recommends spark plugs be changed after seafoaming as contaminants may clog on the plugs.
in our vq's this is not fun...

Not sure about the plugs, but since my thread was bumped; After runnung some seafoam through the gas(havent done the seafoam intake treatment yet) and adding a drop in aFe filter I'm averaging 25.75-26.8 mpg per tank. 80/20 driving

 

i am olny geting 200 to the tank if i am lucky on a 2001 auto maxima can someone hep me what i can do to get more miles

 

From full tank to light I can get approx 400 miles out of a tank. Thats also about 90% highway at 65-75mph. fyi- 00 max w/ auto tranny, all stock...and in need of several repairs.

 

01 GLE Auto... 189K miles... generally 24-26 in a mix of city/hwy driving... Highway only probably upper 26 lower 27.... occasional 28.. Never seen 30 LOL but I do have 150lbs of Mass Loaded Vinyl to make my Max more quiet than those es300's out there!

 

2000 gxe auto. average mixed driving 21-22 mpg. going 45-55 on long trips i get 27-29 mpg. city is killing me probably on at 18-19 mpg. sea foam the gas every couple thousand miles tires close to 40 with 18's

 

2000 Maxima SE I average 330 to 350 city. No highway miles yet. I have 230k on my Max. ...no mods yet.

 

2001 Maxima SE Auto- 120k miles- On a recent trip to Six Flags I averaged 24.4 mpg on about 80-85% highway driving. Only mods are a Jim Wolf pop charger intake and a basic home made grounding kit. I also have the CEL on because of Catalyst Efficiency or something so im sure it can get a little better. At one point I was getting about 15 mpg because I had 2 bad O2 sensors and 2 bad coils.
