Powdercoating Springs, bad idea?

Hey, I was wondering if its a bad idea to powdercoat lowering springs?

I was thinking of getting some B+G's but dont want anyone to see the red/blue(or whatever color they are) springs through the wheel wells.

Anyway, will powdercoating (thus cooking them for a while) the springs make them go bad or turn weak?

PS: do you guys know the cheapest place for b+g's?

There is no reason to do it. Unless you have extremely large and open rims and get someone to look into the wheel well from the bottom of the rim you will never, ever see anything.

nah, they arent THAT smart, they wont go measuring my drop its only 1.6 inches right (b+g's)? so my biggest concern is the color of the springs....hmm, i wonder if i can get them to paint it at the factory...

trust me, if they don't see the drop they won't see the springs.

powdercoating would require, you or a professional, to strip the original powdercoat off the springs first and then have them recoated. and i doubt your parents would realize the springs were in there anyways, can't see them from any angle till you really get up in there...

I have b+g and trust me, you will not be able to see them, if you just don't want to take any chances, just spray paint one coat; and install carefully. www.shox.com will beat any price.

Good Luck

Its not worth it...

You're parent won't see, trust me. I have bright blue powedercoated (stock) Sprints on my car, and they could barely tell. If I had told them I deflated my tires I would walk away clean (but they didn't care anyways). I have REALLY open 17" wheels and you still can't see them unless you're looking up at them. If you're really worried why don't you just tell your parents you spraypainted your stock springs or something.

well

I bought my maxima in 97 lowered it in 97. My parents never noticed that i lowered my car until i parked next to my sister's maxima. they commented that my car looked really low and they thought i blew out my shocks and i should change them because riding on blown shocks is unsafe. When i told them i lowered it they freaked out thinking i was some huge racer cause they just watched the fast and the furious. THINK about it...that's this year like 5 years...
hahahahhahaahahha...nevertheless they'll never figure it out unless they see it next to a stock max. in that case (i;m assuming the max is their car) just tell them you think you blew the shocks and for them to give you money to replace them.

Yeah, that's cool. Mod your parents' car (if it is theirs) without them knowing and cheat them out of their hard earned $. That says a lot about your character, man.

Eibachs are dark grey almost black...

How is modding a car cheating them out of their money?

Re-read the part about "getting money" from them to pay for "blown shocks" (a non-existent problem) created to explain the lowering springs.

1) Mod a car you don't own w/o consent.
2) Invent a problem to explain it
3) Get the parents to give you $ to fix the non-existent problem

Did I miss anything?

Hey, why get ripped off by a sleazy mechanic when you can get ripped off by your own flesh & blood & just keep it in the family?

-The New Family Values, I guess.

Glad I missed that lesson.

FYI, H&Rs are black, just like stock. Plus, the drop is mild at ~1.5", and the car doesn't "really" look lowered, just looks good like the car should look from the factory. It's really only noticable that my car is lowered when you see it next to a stock Maxima.

Honestly, though, your parents will almost surely find out eventually. Maybe not for 6 months or longer, but they will find out. You'll park next to or near a stock Maxima eventually and blow your cover.

H&R's aren't Black?? I've never seen black H&R springs before. H&R springs are blue. Just like the color on the box. Nice and blue.

If you lower the car you should replace the struts as well to get the maximum performance and ride from your car. Springs you really can't see unless you get up in the wheel well. Struts on the other hand you can see clearly through the wheels in the front. Especially if you go the the KYB AGX's. Those are bright red.

ive got sprints and kyb gr2s and youd never know they were there unless you where cleaning the wheels and then you can see a tad bit of blue, but the bottom also has those black spring isolaters on them so you see very little blue

Then I must be color blind, because my H&Rs are B-L-A-C-K. Seriously, my H&Rs are black.

I got mine back in 98, though. They must have changed to blue on the newer ones to please the all-go-no-show crowd.
