Tried posted this earlier either it didnt go through or was deleted.. anyways... i got a car from auction recently stated to have a miss has 1 cyc at 90 psi and 1 at 120 rest are fine i was thinking rering but now im just debating just swapping in a good motor... can i do it in this car leaving the transmission in and just dropping the new motor in?

man i know someone has done this... I know you can drop the motor/tranny out from the bottom pretty easy but i would really like to leave the tranny alone if possible

im calling about a 50k mile motor tomorrow for $500

 

I just did this. Just get the new motor. It's not worth the trouble. The easiest way I have found to remove the motor is to take loose the exhaust, subframe, P/S pump, heater hoses, coolant hoses, CV axles, a/c compressor, alternator, slave cylinder (if it's m/t), air box, all wiring connectors, upper intake mani, and fuel rails. Take 2 jacks, lift up on the motor and disconnect one of the motor mounts, and you can either let one side down, or you can disconnect the other side and let it down all at once. Jack up the front of the car, and using 2 jackstands with 2 2x4's underneath set them up as high as they go. That should get you high enough to get the motor out from under the front. It sounds a little iffy, but I have done it 3 times in the past month, and there isn't anything wrong with it. i can go into great detail if you like but that's the broadstrokes. Oh and you don't want to take the tranny off first. It is so much easier to mess with everything once outside the car.

 

I feel like a dumbass. You have a 5th gen. Well the process is the same. You just might have to take off more or less things to get the motor out. Good luck.
