Saggy Door Fix

I did not find any threads on this besides buying new hinges and watching it happen again.

These hinges are just stupid. You can tell how it wears.

I am cheap so I went to home depot and got a pack of metal washers and loosened the bolts on the bottom hinge to door and slid two of them behind there and tightened it down. The results are a door that closes just fine and looks good as well. If it sags after the washers on my car after some time I will buy a new hinge and wait till it sags and then do the washers again. Hopefully there wont be a need for that.

Hmm my doors seem fine right now but I remember how annoyed I was with my old Sentras doors. I will have to write this down somewhere for future reference.

Did you put the washers on the door or body side of the hinge?

It will help if you have an extra set of hands. Otherwise use a jack to support the door, but yes, takes minutes. You will need an offset wrench to get to the bolt.

No fender take off.... Yes a second hand or a jack would be good. I used my knee.

The jack with a block of wood will serve you well.

Any way you could post a picture of the washers in the hinge? I've got the same problem...it drives me crazy. I think this could possibly be the best $2 and 5 minutes I've ever spent.

As long as the hole will fit your bolt, and it is 1/8" thick, you are good to go. I will take a pic and post. I bought a few and kept some.

This might help http://forums.maxima.org/7507022-post64.html

I'm off to pick up some metal washers and if I can, I'll throw them on in the parking lot.

Last year I bought a 2000 maxima and took it for state inspection. It failed because of the door hinges. They wanted me to get it repaired so I went home and unbolted the door hinges slipped 2 thick washers in the lower hinge and bolted it back. Prob. solved took it back and it passed inspection without any prob. It worked so beautifully that I even forgot that my hing is wearing off until I read this thread. It is still working and no one can tell that there is any sag in the door. But if you grab the door and lift it up and down, then it moves and then you can tell that it is not solid and that there is something wrong with the hinges. but I dont ever do that so it doesnt bother me. So, yea its the best and the cheapest fix I have ever seen.

I am so glad that I know about this site. Now, tomorrow I am replacing my steering wheel pressure hose(another MAJOR and expensive prob with all the maximas). We'll see how it goes. So, all of you guys be ready because yours will leak one day too. It will happen to every maxima out there. Its just a matter of time. My maxima has 160K + miles.

Thanks for bringing this back to life.

I never realized how easy of a fix. My drivers doors needs a lift, so I'll try it this weekend.

How much were all your doors sagging? I tried washers that looked exactly the same installed (as picture in other thread) but that just made my door bump on the latch like it was too high. So i got the joy of removing them too. I just hope when i install thinner washers, the doors wont sag even more and need the thicker ones.

And my door jams are nasty. Like someone just took a spraycan of grease and shot the entire area for me to clean up. So what shoulda been a clean job was very different. Sometimes i wanna take the previous owners and

I can't read every thread that comes back to life. The spoonfeeding baby is in my image gallery... go play.

However, good to know this simple trick. Better a 50 cent washer than an hour's labor at the dealership.
