Found an odd device under my dash...
I had to research what it was...
It's an Enfora | MT-Gi-GSM2354...
So, I had to find out what it does... and I'm a little surprised that this is in my car. It's a GPS location device with Cell Phone technology - basically it calls a provider to tell them the location of my car...
That's not cool.
So needless to say - it's out of the car and sitting on my desk.
By the way - this thing is VERY SMALL about the size of a Dental Floss container, black carbon look (molded plastic), and only connected by two wires - constant +, and a ground - it had two other wires from it's harness also, but they weren't connected - one for switched +, and an output signal. The device has 3 leds in it - Red for power, between a USR1, and a USR2 - all were lit when I found this thing - which means it was active.
Oh, and I found it cause it had come out of where ever they had it and was laying on my floorboard with the wires running up into my dash, I wouldn't have noticed it if it weren't for the lights on it.

Do you know if your car was ever sold at a "we tote the note" type place? My cousin once had a regal from a place like that. The thing had some kind of GPS in it, and they found it in western Kentucky.

The dealer probably put it in there. I bought my ex-wife a 98 Maxima from a tote-the-note place several years ago. We let the insurance lapse on it. She went to a PTA meeting at our kids school...the guys from the dealership came to my house looking for the car...I told them she was out...they left. 20 minute later I get a call from my ex saying the car was gone. The next day I got insurance, got the car back, and as soon as I got it home I tore the car apart looking for the tracker. There it was mounted to the wall plate behind the back seat back...getting power from the passenger side power seat. It had a back-up batter connected to it, so I took that out and installed a switch to the tracker. A friend of mine on here got a 99 MAxima from the same place and found his tracker behind the gauge cluster.
yup.. just another way for the Feds, government, president, FBI, CSI, and our MOMS to watch our every move. man! 2012 is coming quick.. LOL j.k.
Ima search my car for one of these. this is scary

Well, hope they can track it with it not being connected to ......, and no battery in this on...
Besides, my car is always paid up, and so is my insurance (too many accidents in my past to let that lapse)...

If my car is stolen, I'll do the same thing I did LAST time - I'll go get it back myself.
(Seriously - unless they tow it - it ain't going ANYWHERE - I've done things that prevent theft)

Same here. Hidden in a place to where it looks natural when getting in and out of the car. Dont want anyone seeing me reach for anything. My girl is the only one who knows where my killswitch is...since she's the only other one who drives my car.
The Supreme Court has ruled that law enforcement does NOT need a warrant, probable cause, or any reason whatsoever to place a GPS device on the EXTERIOR of your vehicle, on the basis that it does not invade your privacy due to the fact that your car is pretty much always visible to the public in the first place.
Just a little PSA for you guys who might be worried about that kind of thing.
Check under your car regularly.
As for the interior, it could be left by the previous owner. Car rental companies like to use GPS to monitor their cars, some have even been known to give you a surcharge when they catch you speeding, due to the increased risk of damage and wear/tear on the vehicle. Other kinds of business that operate fleet vehicles might also use these. Real estate companies or courier services perhaps.
If you are ultra paranoid, hook up a GPS jammer and fix the issue permanently.

I know 90% of the Altamonte Springs and Seminole County officers, because my wife used to work at a 7-11 that they liked stopping at on the way to the fuel depot (which is located at the secondary E-manage office which is beside my apartment complex. - So if they wanted to find me they'd just knock on my door...

edited for grammar - or typo - yeah....
When you buy a car on 'payments' the 'Bank/Finance Company' technically owns your car until you pay it off - the 'paper work' for all of this is called 'the Note' - as per the originals (back in when Henry Ford was making Model A cars ) had "Note of Sale" on them -
Bit of car history for ya!
Typically Buy Here/Pay Here car places have a 'financial dept' (usually one guy with a degree in Accounting/Banking/Finance) - that signs off on any loans. = that paper is the same as a bank loan 'note'...

It works on cell phone networks. If you have a set of speakers or a radio or something that makes that "dut-dutduhhh" noise when a cell phone is about to ring, use that. Listen for said noise when there is no cell phone in the car.
On another note: There is a fuse in the car labeled 'PHONE' (in the under dash fuse panel)...
I had a phone in my car. Stopped working in like 2000 lol, I removed it.
