How many miles are on the vehicle? Do you have the maintenance history for the vehicle?
I would be inclined to focus on maintenance issues first, before spending any money on mods or cosmetic changes.
Of utmost importance is fluid changes if necessary, ie. oil, tranny fluid, flush radiator, power steering fluid. Inspect steering, exhaust, suspension, CV boots, belts and hoses, brakes etc.

^^^you might want to check the fuel filter, swap that regardless.
as for mods, dont do black and white theme. maybe black housed headlights but no black wheels with a bunch of random black parts on it. if your just going for "looks" i would lower the car, get some 18s with a good offset, and lip kit.
i have an auto as well and really dont see a point in "performance parts" other than headers and exhaust, if that...

o ok because it has the auto climate control and the wood grain and all that, just no leather... it was kinda weird... ill guess ill just have to go buy leather seats somewhere.... BTW im 16 and this is my first car
White rims FTW on the WHITE Maxima... (even if you just get the stock ones painted).
Also, 1.5" front 1.3" lowing helps the look of the car - there are several forum postings debating which is the best products to use... Tien and Illumina's seem to be popular (as the Illumina's are adjustable and such...)
Do the normal maintainance on the car - obviously.
Tint the windows (which I've yet to get on my own - which looks similar to your car without the sunroof)...
Tunes? - Speakers - Head unit - amp - subwoofers? (if your into that type of thing)
Y pipe, cat back?
Just throwing out ideas here.

To OP: What are you, some sort of ricer? Don't change anything unless you don't like it.

- but the rims I want are EXPENSIVE and I'm monetarily deficient, so they will have to wait, I also want them white (which will add to the cost - + tires). Meanwhile I've done some painting, (grill is solid white with only the 'burger' in chrome (I'll either black it out or something - which ever I do to it I'll do to the rear 'burger' and lettering), I also painted the engine cover white. I added some after market driving lights this week, wired to low beams (I plan to run a second set of much brighter ones to my high beams later). I'll lower the car at some point too, and get sway bars, FSTB, and RSTB.
I think my next thing however is TINT - since living in FL is just too bright...
I actually just started modding my 96 max gle a few months ago. I already have 2 12 inch subs in my trunk, dynomat with the bose, sounds great! I also have tint, aftermarket headlight housings with hid's along with clear bumpers with led's. I plan on doing the y pipe and intake next.

I live in Cincinnati, but I am not 100% positive if they are legal or illegal. I believe that you must have some sort of orange housing on the front of your car. So technically, the front of my car is illegal if I am geussing right.
my signals blink white, which look a lot better in my opinion. Luckily where I live, cops dont tend to pull people over for that type of stuff. Anyways, I would go with led lighting throughout your car. I recently bought a new housing for my headlights along with hid's and i also have an led strip in my front headlights as well. Looks pretty coold.
