removing park/neutral position switch on a 5mt tranny? harness difficult to unclip
removing park/neutral position switch on a 5mt tranny? harness difficult to unclip
I figure I would give the 4th gen a forum a shot, as well as the 5th gen forum, as the tranny's are similar.
Has anyone here removed the park/neutral position switch on a 5mt tranny? my car is throwing code # P1706 which is for the Park/Neutral position switch, so I want to replace it. The problem is the harness seems difficult to un-do. Is there any technique in removing the harness from the top of the tranny?
this is a pic of the actual switch:

Thanks

Well, my park/neutral position code was 1003
what I did - there is a blue/red blue/white solid blue and black on the switch(actual colors might be different though, been several years since I looked at it). you are looking for the black one and the blue/White one)
Now take the black one and ground it somewhere in the engine bay. Take the other wire and wire it all the way, splicing it to pin 22 on the ECU harness.
EDIT- Nevermind, I think I took your question wrong and thought you wanted to bypass it like in a 5speed conversion but I think you just want to replace the sensor.
Sorry about that

Are you still having trouble with this? Some of the electrical connectors under the hood can be a pain to disconnect. Having just disconnected the entire wiring harness from the engine of the GXE, I speak from experience. Most of the time you just have to press in on the tab until you hear a click, then without releasing the tab pull the connector straight out. There was one on the driver's side (I don't remember what it goes to) that gave me a particularly hard time. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to grip the ridges on the side of the connector, pressed in on the tab with my other hand, and pulled hard. Eventually it came out.
