Missing part of my intake (OEM) (pics)

Hey guys, i bought a 97 maxima GXE a few days ago, i noticed that part of the intake is missing at the bottom. This is from the front(under the hood); one leads down and the other leads towards the back (air filter). The one that leads down wards seems to be missing something..maybe a cap or sumtin?

TOTAL 4th GEN NOOB, this is my first 4th gen...couldnt find any engine pics to compare

Thanks a million.

The 5th gen is a little different but a pretty similar design. There is a box that that tube leads to down there is designed to make the intake quieter I am assuming the 4th gen has this too. When i got my car that piece was just kind of loosely sitting there so i took it out and put it in my trunk. You are fine without it

I agree. You are fine without it. If it means somethin to you, I wld be surprised if a junk yard charged more $15 bucks for it.

Better yet attach a hose from a wet dry vac on it and route it down to the fog light area.

If you want to cap it off just use the cap to a spray can.

Thanks everyone. I may get cold air intake instead of getting the air reservoir.

Any power differences using that reservoir versus not using it/routing a hose lower?

do you have a filter? my car came with the cone filter on the mass air and didnt have that what you have pictured. i believe its just the plumbing that goes through the fender or bumper to try on bring in the air from outside.

Its a car. You shouldnt be fording rivers. Water is always an issue, but the beauty of the vacuum hose is you can pull it off in seconds if you do want to try your luck with puddles.

If you still have the snorkel part attached, it'll suck air through that before it starts sucking in water from below.

Guess I just gave myself another reason to give this mod a try as well

Yup. Water denser than air. Good point. I taped off the hose the OP is referring too cuz i have a short ram and i wanted the onrush of incoming air directed towards the cone filter. Now i got heat shileds over the filter and MAF ato totally enclose the entire area. I get good pull with that setup.
