Had some issues at the track today
so after getting my car tuned at the dyno i figured it was time to so how she'd do at the track.
i had about 5 runs (ill post the timeslips tomorrow). my best run was 13.8 at 106. the rest where all in the 14s even a 15. but my trap speeds are pretty consistent(within acouple mph). my 60 foots are what killed me every time, i would catch up as soon as i got outa the whole.
i was trying out my new drag radials(BF Goodrich g-force t/a drag radial 225/45r17 on 6th gen SL 17s) but they made so much wheel hop i couldnt do anything but lay off alittle and it would bog. i was going alittle easy, slipping the clutch from 2000-3000rpm but i couldnt get over the wheel hop. BTW i have energy mounts and i filled the side mounts
do you guys think i should be dumping the clutch from like 4000-4500rpm? . i was trying to think about what could be causing it, my shocks/struts are in tough shape....
my mods are
obx headers, test pipe, catman catback, berk intake, nwp spacers and BOP, safc tuned, wet 75 shot, 06 350z clutch/flywheel, energy f/r motor mounts, poly filled side mounts, engery shifter bushings, homemade oil catch can,bf goodrich drag radials, maxspeed springs

i think i will trap a higher mph with a better launch. even my 13.8 run had problems(2.4 60foot), so i know i have a lot of room for improvement, id like to see a 12 of some sorts @110ish. sparks did it with a similar setup...

You also have a major tire disadvantage. I was running 24.5x8x15" slicks for those mid 12s, and I now have 225/50/15 hoosier DRs (cheater slicks) which seem to hook even better...
The wheel hop is a side effect of our suspension with stock bushings giving it a lot of forward travel + you spinning the tires. Did you change the pressure in your DRs? Were you spraying off the line? You should be able to dead hook N/A even with those 17" DRs then start spraying after you're hooking good in 2nd gear. I was able to spray off the line with slicks. Most DRs on a FWD car like 18-19PSI, but that will vary.
Get aaron's torque link and new control arm bushings and you should see a night and day improvement in wheel hop when you do spin.
way too much RPM/not enough clutch slip on the launch. you need to use less RPM or more clutch modulation, or both. those tires do not have the traction to hold on with a launch at that RPM without a ton of clutch slip.
i had the nitrous ready to spray but it doesnt spray untill 100% throttle so it didnt spray untill i was fully into it, once i got outa the whole, i had no traction problems, i had limited options for tires (6th gen bbk).
i think i ran a 9.0 1/8, all my problems were outa the whole so...
my tires are at 18psi
i guess i just need more practice with my clutch work, my 350z clutch grabs alot quicker than my oem clutch. the last time i ran the car was when it was bone stock (14.6) so i had my hands full to say the least.

What was your 1/8 mile trap speed?
I have a ceramic 6-puck and it's a pita to try to slip. Good thing I have slicks.
Yeah it took a lot of adjustment/practice for me to get used to launching on the ceramic 6-puck clutch since it's basically on/off. You definitely want to slip the clutch though, the only time you would dump it is with amazing track prep and traction, which you probably won't get on those 17s.
Why did you put DR's on heavy *** 17s? That is my first question.
I typically launch my car from ~2400 on my new tires and feather it for just a sec and it dead hooks..sounds like you need a lot more practice. Also, the 45 series sidewall is not helping you..

because i got both of them for 50 bucks on craigslist and i have 6th gen front brakes so i cant run smaller than 17s. i'm more worried with traction(nitrous) than weight, its my daily driver, i want the best of both worlds, if i have to give up some time for a better daily ride, im ok with that.
launching street tires and drag radials is completely different(if thats what your talking about with launching). i have brand new sumitomo htr zIIIs for daily driving which grip very well and im not ashamed to say im not instantly running 12s with my drag radials, i need practice and i know that. i wasnt sure how the tires would react, i will prob be going back up in 2 or 3 weeks, hopefully i see some good results.

practice first, parts later. if you don't have the driving skill/practice situation hammered out, no amount of parts/money you throw at the car is going to turn times from mediocre to respectable.

I don't even run a 55 sidewall on my 15" drag radials, lol.
I completely agree. You should be able to pull very respectable '60 foots on those current DRs with practice.
