Did I just ruin my car?

so, I was in the parking lot the other day, and I put my car and drive and pressed the gas, and drove over one of those cement speed bump things that are MEANT to keep your car from going over them. And my car came down and hit and the music stopped and then started again, so I backed back over and the music stopped again, so i'm thinking that's from the force of the car. This was Tuesday.

Tonight, my car would jerk a slight bit, almost a thrust, as it was in a low gear going up hill.

The curb it right behind the two front wheels, so nothing in the middle of the car or anything. Do you think any damage happened to it? It doesn't smell, there's no physical damage as far as I can tell visually, but what do you think may have happened?

Any potential problems? This sucks.

Check the alignment on the car and see if any suspension/steering components are bent.

I will but from driving it the past few days, the steering is just as good as it ever has been and nothing seems to be off. So I'll double check, but everything seems to be fine from a visual stand point. No leaks when the car is off or anything. Just a little drip every once and a while while it's on, but I have a feeling that's normal? Correct me if I'm wrong.

With 4x4 stock suspension, I think you're fine. I ran over a small curb at 90 mph once LOL
It didn't do a damn thing.

I had a buddy who did the exact same thing in his '94 Camry, except he hit it at 15mph and went all the way over it. Didn't hurt the car at all. That was 7 years ago and the car is still going strong.

LOL. How do you even manage to hit a curb going 90?

Yeah, I mean it runs fine and it drives fine. But because of the mental torment, little things make me stress when I'm sure it's unrelated. Just the shaking. My only fear would be an oil leak, but that would be pretty obvious, eh?

Why not put it on jack stand and take a look? Or drive to your trusted mechanic and ask him to look? This car has almost all its vital parts in the front. OTOH if you hit something important you would've noticed by now. Engine is protected by the cross bar so it's really hard to damage something hitting a curb like you did as the bar goes in the middle of the car from firewall to radiator.

It was simply a way to draw attention to my board. And is it just me, because it seems that you are sometimes a little rude across the board...I could be wrong.

I was doing 120 exiting the interstate and some guy just decides he needs to exit too at the last second. There was some small road construction on the edge. I jacked the brakes and had to plow over it to avoid sending our cars to the junkyard.

He was scared ****less. It was priceless.

Well that at least makes sense. I was about to say, that's a little fast for a parking lot...

Also, my car started today, and went all the way up to about 2500rpms and then back down to 1300, then up to 1700, then down to 1100, then to 1400, then back down to 1100, back up to 1800, up and down up and down up and down and it doesn't sound good.

I feel like this sounds like a fuel pump problem though? Also, I've been getting really crappy gas mileage recently. I used to go about 3000rpms at lights and stop signs, and I'd get about 320mpt then it went down to 290 max, generally 250mpt. But now, even driving like a grandma at about 2100rpms each time, I'm still getting the same awful gas mileage, and this happened before the little curb. So I feel like this has been running for a while but the curb just made me notice it?

So, any ideas?

Make sure you didn't put any dents on the oil pans.

Is that a potential solution to my problems? The oil pans? I'm not driving it right now, I'm driving a Toyota Tacoma but are the oil pans expensive to fix or what? I've never fixed any under-the-car things.

I'm thinking the fuel pump assembly is located in the fuel tank.

Oil pan is simply draining the oil, unbolt the pan and scrape the seal, install new seal and bolt new oil pan. Refill engine oil.

My oil pan has a little scrape in it; I'm totally unsure how that happened. But it's not hurting anything.

I haven't taken a look at the oil pan, but I have a feeling that the oil pan is the actual problem. So I'll do that, but this seal you speak of? What is it? I mean I'm sure that I'll understand what you mean when I look at it, but where do I get a "new" or "replacement seal for it?

Thanks for your input, btw.

Also, I have a feeling the loss of oil would cause odd rpms? Lack of lubrication and all...correct me if I'm wrong.

Check your oil, look under the car for any obvious damage. The problem you're having sounds more like a maf or bad vacuum leak.

I can't successfully check my oil yet because the car is always warm (I drive a lot) so I'm parking it until next Saturday and driving the pickup until then. So if I have low oil I know that the oil pan may be the problem or something at least related. If not, then I'll know to look else wear. If it's not the oil, I'm going to take it into my mechanic and see what they say.

Long story short metal bolted to metal would still leak oil, so an RTV silcone seal is applied to the pan then it is bolted onto the engine. Once the RTV dries you have an watertight seal.

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/

And grab the FSM for your year Maxima. Then it'll be crystal clear and you are welcome.

You probably have a pending engine code. Get the codes scanned for free at a Autozone store and report back.

There "might" have been a chance you pinch a wire harness when you came down. Not sure how likely that is, but worth a look.

Where do you pick up the FSMs? Autozone? I really want one now.

And that makes sense, so I'm assuming that these are just materials I can get at Autozone for example and just drain oil, remove pan, fix it, install pan once dried, and fill oil given that's' the issue.

Thanks once again!

I may just do that. What would a pinched wire harness cause? But considering I have no idea about anything mechanical with this car other then what I've already replaced (how-to which is one thing, the radiator fan), that's why I ask.

Thanks for everyones input.

if its leaking theres no way you would not see it.
how hard it is just to get on the ground and look at it?

your rpm problem sounds like a MAF problem.
try reseting the ECM by disconnecting the battery for more than an hour see if it gets better.

I'll try the MAF and if the reset doesn't work, then I'll try resetting it again and cleaning it with the stated tutorial on the site. If not, I'll possibly order a new one. Luckily I have a 2000 and don't have to spend as much as you 5.5 genners!

And I've seen some stuff on the ground, but it seems to be the same draining as cars do when you turn them off...as far as I can tell.
