P1800 DTC - VIAS. What am I checking first?

I searched about the issue, but was unclear on one thing..

Is the normal failure of the system the actual butterfly, or vacuum leak causing the code? or is it the actual solenoid itself?

I'm gonna look into it tomorrow, and see what I can figure out, but I get this code every now and again, and lately, the car has been performing like junk, and this code shows up... Sometimes the car performs better, and the code is usually gone by then.

I think I'm just going to install a block plate eventually, but for the time being, which parts am I most likely looking at testing/replacing? I have another VIAS setup to try, all minus the solenoid that plugs into the harness. I have the canister, butterfly, and associated lines, if I need to swap any of those.

Thanks.

has to be the solenoid, it's the only piece with an electrical connection

For the record, (I still want a block plate) I ended up (I think) getting rid of the P1800 by giving the butterfly a good lube. If you moved the plate by hand, it would sometimes stick in place.. I lubed it up, and have driven the car 3 times since, with no noticeable drop in power like before. It also now moves freely by hand.

I think the solenoid was expecting a certain reading, and when the butterfly wasn't moving correctly, tripped a code. It was just a pending code. Seems to be gone now.
