Sounds like a diesel

My car idles like a diesel. I definately have the timing chain issues. I'll post a link after start up where you can hear the whine from the tensioners (I think) and the rattle from the primary chains slack guide thing. Is this why it sounds like a diesel? Or is there more to it? Im taking it to the dealer as I have the extended warranty and want to get everything done at once. Any tips on what I should say/do?

Are you low on oil? There was a rattle coming from my engine whenever my oil was low. But I also think my tensioners are shot, which is the source of another rattle. I've been burning oil like crazy and now my car's at the dealership.

Hi guys ... not sure which thread to tag along onto as I am a new member. I posted my conundrum in the wrong forum subsection and someone yelled at me. (

I have an '04 Maxima SE with 115K. Today, on the highway, I noticed she wasn't giving as much oomph from the AC. No problems, just too muggy outside. But as I was about to exit the highway, the battery light and the brake light came on. ACK!! And nada would happen when I pressed the gas. I coasted to a parking lot. Shut her off and then starter her again ... same deal. I've done some research ... I'm thinking alternator as I just had the two belts repaced this past week and now this?? UGH!!

But would a bad alternator cause the AC to malfunction?? And why would my car idle but do nothing when I had my foot on the gas?? She didn't completely stall out but wouldn't go anywhere when I pressed the gas.

Any thoughts?? Especially about how much in repairs I'm facing if it is the alternator?? (I live in the Midwest - Kansas to be exact.)

I'm sorry. I don't know what else I can do since new users cannot start new threads.

Sorry.

New users need a 15 post count before posting new threads. You can try searching the 5th gen stickies, or using the search bar. Or you can post 13 more times and create a thread

Actually, it would be a 6th gen.

And I was aware of the fifteen post rule, but thanks for the refresher.

Just trying to get some thoughts on my issue before the mechanic takes a look ...

My bad, it is a 6. Forgot that the 5th gens only lasted 3 years
