New key old key
New key old key
My 95 SE would not start the other day and i couldn't figure it out at first. I seated the ignition key firmy in the ignition and tried again and it started. I looked at the key and see it was worn as I have had this key for about sixteen years now (got the Max in 1994). I tried my spare which I keep in my wallet and car started with no problem. I tried a newer key as I replaced the ignition switch about a year ago. The car started but the radio and power mirrors were out. I took the key out and before I pulled it all the way out the radio came on. Put the key in again gently and everything worked fine.
Has anyone encountered this strange scenario? I don't think it's my ignition switch as the car has been pretty good with starting before all of this happened.

thats weird.
If the engine is on then all electronics shd work unless u blew a fuse. I wd say get rid of the old key and use the new one. I had a really worn key that still worked but wd not open the pass door. Had to get a new cut from using the trunk key cylinder. New key worked smooth as butter!

The spare key in my wallet which is the best of the three works great. I will have to break in the newest key at some point.
Tried the spare key and no problems whatsoever. I am getting rid of the 16 year old key....

You can get the key code by pulling the trunk lock
You can get the key code by pulling the trunk lockwhich is a lot easier than pulling the door lock or ignition lock.
Nonoe of the locks have the key codew ritten on them; only the trunk lock conatins all the wafers to extract the key code.
Take the trunk lock to a good locksmith to get a new key. It shouldn't cost more than 40 dollars.
Went through this drill on my recently purchased 98 maxima. The key could turn the ignition but not the door locks.
BTW I pulled a door lock. It looks painful and something you can only deal with 5 jointed 12" fingers but later on I figured out that you can remove the rear rail for the window which really blocks things and a door brace and then anyone can do it.
To remove the window rail look for a 6mm (8mm?) bolt on the door edge. Take it off. The top of the rail is secured by a pinch grip and probably some corrosion and muck. Work it loose gently and it comes out and presto you can see the whole door lock assembly in front of you

I don't have an original 'Nissan' key - I do have two of this key however - the chip is in the red thing.
I have a 98, think G it doesnt have a chip!! Sure can't copy one of those! I'm sure one could always bypass the ignition switch.
Friend of mine started misplacing his keys so much, on his Honda he cleverly hid a switch on his dash , looked like any other button , used it to start the car, and access was a switch built into a piece of trim. used to make me laugh,
