HELP: back door wont open

so my dorrs were all working fine and dandy until sunday when i decide that i am going to give my car a full cleaning. as i am finishing up i close the drivers side rear door and it wont open from the outside. So first thing i looked at was my child safety lock and changed its position and then closed it to see if it would work... STUPID MISTAKE lol. now my door wont open at all... any ideas of what it could be... how can i pull the door off if it wont open at all?

thanks guys

Ok chill a bit. It was working before and should work again. Undo what you did.

It is your child safety button. Just play around with it.

Use your key fob, will it not open it?

Do you have the Service Manual? I suggest you download it. It will help you a lot.

Keyfob would probably unlock the door but will not open it for him. Mandyfig, you are not awake yet?... you might need some coffee...

OP, there is somebody around who was having a similar problem and was wanting to find a way to open the door panel with the door closed. I'd search to see if he found a solution.

Once the door is unlocked, with the child safety on, you can unlock the door from the outside, eh?

Then you can disable the child safety lock.

He couldn't open the door from the outside, to begin with, before he enabled the child lock. Looks like the outside handle is the problem, but now that he can't open it from the inside either, things are a bit more complicated.

This same thing happened to me on my wifes Passat.

I had to pick the lock from the inside. Open the passenger side rear door and look how it is possible to pick the lock with something. Warning, I scatched the fender well pretty bad so I wouldn't use a coat hanger.

Once you have the door open, then you'll have to take the panel off and figure out why it wont open from the out side.

Good luck.
