I'm currently running the stock TI edition 17'' wheels (225/50/17) Any .org members out there running 225/45/17 tires? Would there be any issues running that size, reason is I found tires for a good price but they are in 45 sidewall hight. Thanks guys.

 

I believe you would be OK, but your speedometer would be slightly off. There are calculators on the internet that can tell you the percent difference. Also, do a quick search, as I remember reading some threads about this before.

who told you that? i was running 235/45/17 toyos 4s no issues.

 

When I was looking at alternatives for the 225/50/17 stock size, i found a much better selection in the 235/45/17 size.

 

235/45-17 are shorter than stock in overall height. No doubt about that.

I did run a set of Nexen N7000 in the 235 because the price was much cheaper than 25/50-17, but they never did look right. Just could tell they were too small.

After those ran out, I went to a 245/45-17 Firehawk GT. Almost identical circumference as 225/50-17.

I also now have G35 coupe rims, so the wider tire fits much nicer than it would on the 17x7 stockers.

 

235 are priced much lower too. Not sure why...

 

im running 225/45's right now on the factory 17" wheel. i thought that was the factory spces but i just checked under the center console and it says factory specs are 225/50. go figure.
i was running the wrong tire this whole time. and my speedometer is accurate as far as i can tell. courtesy police scanners on those roads reflected my speed back at me and it was down to the T.

 

im runnin 235 55 right now and hate it due to the look, was looking at 225 50 but they are much pricer and not a big selection so i was thinking 235 45 as well. just worried about ride quality due to the street condition in nyc

 

hmm didnt know our wheels were wide enough for 235...guess I will consider that size now, 45 sidewall still too thin looking on stock rims?

I'm running 245/45-17 Eagle GT's on my wife's '03 GLE at stock ride height on 350Z 7-spokes. No issues whatsoever. I ran the same setup on my '00 SE (swapped 'em out to wife's car before I sold my '00). Just personal opinion, based on personal experience, but I think the 245/45-17 is the ideal size tire for the Maxima, in terms of wear characteristics. I've gotten 20K so far on the setup, and the tires are only worn 2/32" from new.

 

My speedometer is actually more accurate with 225/45/17s than with the stock 225/50/17s. I was reading 3 mph fast at 85, now it reads 1 mph slow (verified with my GPS) with the 45 series tires, and the odometer is even better. With the stock tires, for every 100 miles my odometer showed, I was actually traveling 104 miles. Now for every 100 miles it shows, I actually went 99.7 miles.

 

im running 245/45/17 right now and its about a half % different then OEM they fit fine and no rubbing

 

Ha thats funny! figures silly nissan and their specs.

 

They aren't.

We must have gone down that road a dozen times for the 5th Gen back around 2001 - 2003. 235/45 is slightly out of spec on 7" wide wheels.


I wouldn't have any problem running 225/45-17, although I would run the pressure up slightly to compensate for the 225/45 being slightly smaller with lower load capacity at any given psi than 225/50. 3 or 4 psi ought to be enough.

If you're heavily concerned about appearance, you might not like this combination.

I'm running 235/45-17 on the front and 245/45-17 on the rear with G35 staggered rims. No issues whatsoever.

 

I have to 235 45 17, and it is ok, but if I was to do it again I would go with the 245 45 17, the extra side wall will take more of the road shock.

 

Highly doubt there will be a problem with 45's instead of 50's not that big of a difference see if you went to 40's then maybe!!

 

The load rating on the Falken and Michelin 225/50/17s I had were 93, my 225/47/17 Bridgestone 760 sports are 94! Go figure!

 

Those B'stones are Load Index 94 with an XL ("extra load") rating.

I'm not entirely sure what the difference is between Standard Load (SL), Extra Load, and Light Load (LL) other than the LI number is affected. But I imagine that it involves the structural design of the tire carcass.
