Sub frame collars inquiry

who's purchased this mod for their 4th gen?

im on my second maxima and am frankly unhappy with her handling.

the car is on tokico illuminas 5 way adjustible shocks mated to progress springs, also have an addco rear sway bar..

to be honest, on the hardest shock setting, the car still feels like a boat, i dont think the shocks are blown as they do not travel repeatedly over harsher bumps in an out of control fashion.. they just feel too soft, turning is also horrible as i feel the body sway..

my old max was on CMS springs and kyb gr2's without a rear sway bar and the ride felt more solid...

do others with my suspension setup feel the same way?

also, as per the sub frame collars, how much of an improvement are they?

i have hrd that new bushings can make a world of difference.

I have the GXE model both times. I remember that i was gonna take some real money and update the entire suspension/steering from strut mount to hub assembly to axle seal. Spend some real coin.

Check the front sway bar bushings. The ones that connect the end links to the sway bar. Actually, don't even check them, just buy some new ES ones. courtesyparts.com has them for $0.86. You will need four.

^what makes them such an improvement? are there any other types of bushings that would fit with the stock front sway bar?

subframe connectors make a substantial difference in feel of the car, though i don't know that they'll cure the problem you are complaining about. they'll make the car feel more planted, but not less soft.

It's not that the ES bushings are a huge improvement per se, but I know that my stock rubber bushings were so worn that there was substantial play in the connection of the end link to the sway bar. This was causing lazy steering response and large amounts of front end body roll. It's just that the ES bushings are 86 cents and that makes them the obvious choice.

They aren't just supposed to be, they are. However in this case I'm willing to bet the majority of the improvement will come from eliminating the play.

Definite improvement + get a front strut bar and rear strut bar if you can find one.

Those subframe collars made my ride more solid. Costly only $89 and such an easy install I'd say go for it.

the subframe collars add a lot of stability for when you take off hard, but besides that there is not a big change as fas as ride quality goes. I'd get urethane bushings everywhere you can, and if you have the cash, you should get some coilovers and then make some of your money back by selling your current set up.
