no charging below 1500 rpm

Hello Everyone.

Today on my way to work when I stopped on red ligth and engine went to idle I noticed that battery and brake ligth went ON. I did rev engine and lights went off. When engine dropped to idle light came back. What the hell??
I did replace my alternator less than 3 yrs ago and I didnt make more than 40k miles.

I will chack voltage tonight and I hope thats a small thing, nothing major.

Thnx for your help guys.

unless you have an udp, more likely than not, it's your alt. getting a rebuilt one from autozone doesn't mean it's gonna last 100k+ miles.

voltage test battery w/ car on and off before buyin another one. should be 12 volts off. 14 volts on. If below 14 volts then alt busted. CHeck your grounds too.

I had this same exact problem this past winter. I also had the alternator from AutoZone. You have to take down the A/C compressor and check the bolt that holds the alternator. Or if you want, take off the belt and see if the alternator has any play. This was the issue with mine until it died on me at my house and went and took it and behold, the alternator aluminum shell broke off where the bolt keeps it in place. I guess the mechanic who last worked on it, did not tighten it back fully.

my batt and brake light have been on for the past year and a half. The car still hasn't died on me yet and the battery always seems to be charging ok. I'm sure my alt. is slowly going, but, as far as I can tell, nothing has gotten any worse since the lights came on. I'll replace my alt. when the time comes, but until then I'll just ignore the two red lights on the dash...

autozone remans only replace the failed part not all the guts. so if it was the diode thats all the change. then they throw it on the tester and it reads right they stamp it approved. Thats why they do lifetime warrantee.

Have you added capacitors for those amps?

Yeah I learned my lesson there and went to the dealership and bought it. Same $250 and $60 core charge as long as its OEM. If you want to know if its OEM, the alternator would be green.

Yeah they are trust me... and I plan to run mine into the grave. It been to the insurance undertaker three times and back and will not let it go...since they only offered me $400 for it...they can kiss my behind for one front fender, bumper, and headlight damage and want to write it off..

That's your main problem, be glad it lasted that long, i've been a lot less lucky than that with cheap auto/advance rebuilt alternators.
