Speakers/Subs Replacement Suggestions

When I bought my 99 Max without the bose system, the factory subs were pretty much blown, but I just avoided songs with a lot of bass. Then my friend gave me an old box with 2 10's, so I unplugged the stocks and used the box for all the bass (which was more than enough). But now the speakers in the box died and I don't want to keep the box since it takes up most of my trunk space. I was thinking of getting a compenent system since my speakers are also factory and starting to show their age. I was hoping someone could suggest a good component system that they themselves have or if not that, then a least good subs to replace the stock ones. I tried searching for component systems on the org but haven't really found anything. Any help would be great! Thanks!

What is your budget?

I have used Pioneer's TS-D speakers in a few cars and I think they are really excellent sounding...especially for the money. The shop I worked at sold Focal and JL high end components and over the years I have installed every speaker you could imagine. The TS-D's give you 95% of the sound quality of the higher end speakers at 20% of the price. They do sound better with an amp though. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...TS-D1720C.html

So you have a '99 non bose system and you have added an amp for subs. Is the radio still stock? It all comes down to your budget. A decent deck starts off at around $150, front components and rear coax will run $240 if you go with the TS-Ds, a four channel amp is around $100+...

BTW, this is a great deal on a good quality name brand 4 channel: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_2068ZX2....html?tp=35782
Only 35w rms, but that's more than the bose system and cleaner too. Would be fine with some efficient speakers.

dont need components, jus need a good HU, 3ways, and a sub.

Use the high pass filter on the HU so that the 3ways only play highs and mids. Let the Sub blow the bass.

BOOM u good

thanks for the reply! if it's just the rear subs then I would like to spend about $150 but if it's an entire component system then I guess $300. I have an amp for the box with 2 10s in the back.

the components i listed are amazing. mid bass in the doors w/ separate tweeters. they screamed and i was only running a 300w amp. run a 500+ to all 4 speakers and you wouldnt be able to sit in the car for long. paired with your subs people would be able to hear you coming and able to hear the words to whatever song you are listening to

Italian made. they really are worth the money. i paid a pretty penny for them. spent more on those and the amp then i did my first full system ever. crazy sound quality.

i had a TV in my 4th gen hooked up to these and with the 5.1 dolby on it was better than most peoples home stereo set up.

id put them in my 5.5 gen but im going all performance for now

I hear you. I totalled my Maxima a few years ago, and I've just got a basic set up in my Accord now, 6.5 alpine type r components and 6x9s with a 300x4 Alpine amp. Nothing to fancy, just enough to get the job done. contemplating a tv though with the double din dash, especially since you brought up the 5.1 lol

lol. thanks.

I wasnt even running subs at the time. my next set up hopefully will be 8in subs in the door with 6.5 comp all in the front and a 6.5 comp set up in the rear with 2 12s. 1500w to the subs and another 750-1000w for the highs. dynomat through out. of course this is all going in my next vehicle. not the max to much weight

If you want to keep it in that budget I recommend getting some front components like the pioneers I referenced and replace the subs. You don't have factory subs btw. 6 3/4 front and rear speakers, only newer maximas have a factory sub, 6th gen+ w/bose IIRC. What amp do you have? Brand, model number? You need to know what impedance subs to buy based on what load the amp will handle.

@NissanMan97, no offense but those speakers are really only good for someone with a big budget. The op would need a nice head unit(300+), amp(400+), and all the wiring to install(150+) just to get them to sound ok, plus he would still need new subs and to buy the speakers (500+). I've heard of Hertz but never seen/heard them. They look cheaply made from the pictures I was able to find. Do they have a US distributor? Might be kinda hard to get them serviced. Plus, Italians don't make good audio equipment, just flashy cars. You would laugh at how crappy the audio systems are in 200k plus Ferraris and Lambos. The Nissan Bose system sounds better.

none take. here is their site.

they offer low end stuff and they also offer really high end. ive owned 2 maximas with factory bose and driven my mom 09 max to have used her stereo plent of times. these things with the right amp will out shine any bose factory set up that nissan has offered so far.

Bose isnt always the greatest lol. My dads G37xS Bose system is nice, but it doesnt hit the way I would want it to. I would definitely replace that system if it were my car. Besides, 300 for some comps is not a bad price, when you do car audio, you wanna do it right, and right the first time. Thats what I stress to people, i used to install car audio, and you have no idea how much money people would spend coming back to upgrade when they should have went all out to begin with

I just replaced all four speakers in my car. I was able to get a pair of component alpine type s for the front and then standard 2 way alpine type s 6 1/2 for the rear for a total of $150 IIRC. I think they sound pretty good, especially for someone who just wants speakers that will work well and not kill your wallet.

I do have them hooked up with a 12" type s sub, so that does spare them the low range. Not sure how well they would do with that.

The type s alpines are pretty decent for cheap speakers but they do have weak mid bass output. I've heard the 6x9's with an amp have a good amount of bass but not the 6 1/2's. Good thing you have a sub...that's the best band-aid for a cheap system!

Ha. There is just no way 6 1/2" speakers can deliver bass on the level that I wanted, so it was necessary. I recently put foam baffles behind the rear speakers and that really helped with some of the midrange. Especially if you have a sub, they help from the rear speakers getting beaten up
