Replacing rear fender

Just wondering if anyone has replaced the rear fender on their maxima? Mine is rusted out and like to get it replaced asap. How difficult is the job? Here's a link to the part on courtesy Nissan

http://www.courtesyparts.com/maxima-...1920_1925.html

Part number is 78110 and 78111

The rear QUARTER PANEL has to be cut and welded. it is not a bolt on piece. usually they sell them in smaller sections so you dont have to cut away too much.

I would let an experienced body shop do this

yea it would prob be over 500 for both sides since they will have to do alot of blending.

really depends on the damage, but for a quick fix you can always take it to a cheap body shop and get it done

Didnt really think that you'd have to cut much since the rear FENDER comes as a whole piece. Did you see the link?

the "rear fender" it's all welded together, you can't unbolt and just replace it like that.
and thanks kevlo

They have to weld it in place, go look at your car.

Like I said, it is pointless to replace the entire piece, you are better off replacing small sections

Nice! they sell "REAR FENDERS"! I picked up a mint one from the junk yard, had to cut it off the car. The actual name is Quarter Panel, not sure why Courtesy has it as fender but oh well. 500 bucks for a brand new piece isn't terribly bad, but like everyone said, it will have to be welded on and painted. Along with that you also need to remove ALL trim including the rear windshield. I'm having a shop install mine on my 3rd gen once I have some cash in hand.

Here's a pic or two if you'd like to see. Just go to the last page of the thread for the "REAR FENDER" pictures

like theyve all said before, it is definately not bolt on... and ColumbianMax is refering to doing the entire fender area... If your just fixing the rust you could always just get a small piece of the fender and let them work some magic... if done crappy though, it would look terrible since the new seam would trace the fender a few inches out... a good body shop would hide it pretty well but dont expect to get good work for 500... i paid 1300 for my left rear quarter to be replaced (entire section from tail light to centerline of wheel) and the paint job (pearl white) was pretty poor. you can expect to pay at least that for two smaller patches and painted... unless you find a hook up!

thats my $.02 from personal experience

Lol I never said that it was a bolt on..and courtesy Nissan calls it a rear fender because that's what it is, but that's besides the point. Thanks for the replies!

nope :/ sorry! but as far as the damage, the left outside tail was trashed, the trunk was popped out of alignment, and the quater was wrinkled real bad at the light and a little bit up to the center of the fender. oh and the bumper was all cracked where it mounted. got hit by a 4x4 f250, i stopped faster than him at a camera light and let off my brakes to let him push me into the intersection. he was probably still going about 25-30mph. and the paint, rough to the touch, and a little dull on the color. also had more pearl than stock and the fender, which was painted better, had some serious wetsanding needed!

as for the bolt on part, i guess we just assumed since most fenders are bolt on and quarter pannels are welded... well, any that ive seen anyways. oh wells! GL!

Nope, you would need a really experienced body shop guy to graft in one from a good piece.
