Dear guys, how to judge if a shock is shot?

my GXE bounces a lot on the road of philly. I mean the body is not shaking a lot, but the bumping sound is loud.

I didn't notice that until I once drove a friend's 90'Acura Legend. THe Legend has a "firmer" suspension than Maxima, but pretty absorbant and no too much sound.

Is it because the Legend has a better sound isolation design than Maxima, or it means the shock on my GXE is gone?

THanks for ideas.

Well i lowered my car with intrax back in July of 2000 and didnt change the struts and it was fine but now they are bad and need to be changed. The car will bottom out easily and i get a squeeking noise from the struts when it bounces and it is very bouncy now. hope that helps!

1. check around the body of the strut..if there's oil on there the strut is gone.
2. push down on a corner of the bumper and bounce the car a few times. if it bounces more than once to settle then it's worn.
