PCU / ECU / ECM reset ?

How do I reset the PCU / ECU / ECM or whatever Nissan calls the main engine computer on a 96?

Thanks,

John

Hard reset

schmellyfart,

Thanks for the video attachment. I guess maybe I asked the wrong question, I know how to clear codes, I am trying to essentially reset or hard reboot the entire ECU. I had an animal chew up my wiring harness pretty bad, and although I have repaired the damage, the ECU apparantly got some bad mojo while some of the wires were crossed or shorted. Now I have a transmission issue that I haven't been able to solve and someone suggested a hard reset to the ECU. The transmission issue was not there the day before the wires got chewed. I now only have 1st and 3rd gears, and no lock up on the torque converter. It seems to be an electrical issue, maybe in the TCU or maybe a residual limp mode type of thing from the ECU. Either way I need to take one step at a time, and the first is to hard reset the ECU.

Just removing power, preferably overnight, should do the trick.
