replacing plugs on 97 Se with 160k

I did my research and apparently the NGK platinum plugs are the ones to get for my car, right? Do I have to buy these from a Nissan Dealer or can I get them at any auto parts place?

p.s. sorry for my ignorance on this issue, i'm not very mechanical and I'm actually paying a guy to install my plugs, that's how bad I am =)

I was just curious what my mechanic would charge me for throwing in NGK IX Iridiums in my '99 with 80K and he came back with just under $290!

There is a youtube video in how to change the plugs on a 4th gen it probably takes 15 minutes and is ridiculously easy. I'll be doing mine this weekend, and so should you!!

Good luck!

Here's the video on how to do it:

PMOHR is the man. Just go with NGK coppers.

yeah it's a 15-20 minute job, maybe 30 minutes if you've never touched a tool before. you need the most basic of hand tools to do it (a spark plug socket, an extension, a ratchet or breaker bar, and an 8mm socket or screwdriver).

You should save some of that money buy the plugs yourself and some tools.

Or just get copper plugs and change them sooner...still cheaper than platinum plugs at longer intervals.

Yeah man, you must have went in asking about the NGK Laser Iridiums..Those are the most expensive NGK's at Autozone for $14 a plug. I am using the one just below which is the NGK Iridiums which cost me $45 for all 6.

ok, after showing that utube video to my friend, he said he would do them for free this weekend. So what's the verdict on the spark plugs that are the best performance/hp adders to get? I'm thinking about the NGK Copper Plugs, that's what I have found as most people said were the best, Just have to replace them every 30k instead of 60k like the platinums, is that what u guys would suggest?

I would recommend you use a 8mm socket vs a philips head screwdriver. The screws holding down the coil packs could easily strip. The job is very simple. I'd wait for the engine to cool down before working on it as well.

If you don't have a spark plug socket to pick up the plug, just use the coil itself. That's what I would do before I actually went ahead and bought the right socket.

I just got a magnetic spark plug socket, and it worked like a dream! Took me all of 40 minutes to do and I've never done spark plugs before in my life!

There was an extra bracket that I had to move which may be '99 specific for the last plug by the firewall, but it was just 2 nuts and I was on my way.

Old plugs definately had some miles on them but they were far from some of the nightmares I've seen on here!

So OP how did the job go for you?

you're not going to get more or less performance out of either of them. just get whichever you feel like getting.

k, now i'm confused then. Why are people saying get the copper then if there's not performance increase over the platinum ones?

Because they are less expensive...

Coppers last approx. 30K miles while Platinums last approx. 60K.

There was a very technical link In a thread I saw that show conductive properties of each That proves it. Also anyone that is an elctrical engineer or work with it knows copper is only behind gold then silver
