1999 Maxima factory alarm going off
1999 Maxima factory alarm going off
Sometimes if I unlock my 1999 Maxima ES using the remote, the alarm (car horn) will go off when I open the drivers door. It's worse in cold weather, so I assume something isn't quite contacting.
Is there some sort of microswitch somewhere that tells the security system that the door has been unlocked? I had the door panel off, but its almost impossible to see (yet alone work) in there.
Does anybody have a schematic of where and what I need to replace to fix this up?
Thanks,

Nobody knows if there is a sensor in the door or has a good schematic or wiring diagram?
no that will not dis-arm the factory alarm. Pull the harness from the control unit under the dash to dis-arm the system, but i'm not sure if u may lose some other controls. give it a try and see- Check the drivers door switch for proper operation too
Or if the leads to the switch can be jumpered to trick the alarm into always thinking the door is unlocked (so the bloody alarm jsut stays off!)??
OK, so I found a wiring diagram.
The door lock actuators are at the bottom of the door and have a connector with 4 wires. Two brown wires to control the lock, a black ground wire and a green&black "unlock sensor". When the door is locked the green&black wire is open, and when the door is unlocked, the green&black is grounded. The switch is operated off a plastic cam, and it seems that maybe that cam wears so the control unit thinks the car is locked (when it isn't) and turns on the alarm when the door opens. It looked difficult to remove so I didn't bother.
Instead, I stripped some cover off of both the black ground wire and the green&black wire and wound them around eachother, permanently grounding the "unlock sensor". Hopefully the alarm will never know the door is locked, and thus never turn on that bloody alarm when I open the door!
I'll drive it a few days and post if it works. I think it should. (Or it'll burn the car to ashes......)
