Koni Yellow deals?
Koni Yellow deals?
I am in the market for koni yellows and would like to hear from those who have bought them or know where I can get the at discounted prices. So far teh best and cheapest place I've found was here at this website: http://thmotorsports.com/koni/koni_s.../i-100660.aspx
Total came to 566 shipped
Is this the best I can do?
EDIT: I forgot to say I already bought some tein s-tech lowering springs so I don't need any help there.

Why this shock/strut? I don't see anything special about it above/beyond any aftermarket strut. Only good for a 35mm drop....do you know how many "inches" that is?
IMHO I think there are better shocks/struts out there which are ALL cheaper and are known for holding up to lowering springs. Well, in terms of cost, Tokico Illuminas would be close to that price. HP Blues and GR-2's are all in the $320 range. Check ebay. But first, check the Group Deal forums, there's been a suspension/spring thread in there for a while which I believe is still good. Fantastic prices...shipped.

My brother is the car guy and he said that the Koni yellows and tein stechs would be the best combo. Koni also has a lifetime warranty and I haven't heard of someone referring negatively to Koni, haven't looked either.
35mm is about 1.3 inches

Conveniently, Konis seem to be picked by the Auto-Xers and "serious" enthusiasts on the boards. Pricey? Sure. Get what you pay for? Sure.
Like someone wrote on the GC + Koni = Awesome thread, it's the best suspension package for our cars, but just slightly above average in the car world at large. Plus, many people find Dennis Grant's writing to be very persuasive and informative. http://farnorthracing.com/autocross_secrets18.html
He singles out Tockio for being buckets of fail. And I quote, "Where there's no Bilstein fitment and Penskes are too expensive, Konis are usually perfectly adequate. They are, by far, the best budget shock and better than any of the crap coming out of Japan. JIC, GAB, Tokiko [sic], Tein - synonyms for 'crap.'"
I am also interested in buying some Konis. Eventually. The idea of doing a group buy to get matching shocks is very interesting. Do we know anyone with a shock dyno? Some of the 4th gen guys seem to have one...

Nice link, and yes I wish we could get a group buy going I'm going to give THmotorsports a call and see what they can do if we get a couple buyers.
Also we need to find a shock dyno.

Konis are pretty much the best shocks/struts out there for these cars in terms of contruction, performance, and their background & reputation as a company in general. Of course, there are many of us have used Tokico, Tein etc with no issues, but that just makes those the consensus and not necessarily the best. If I were serious about auto crossing or road racing, I'd definitely get a set of Konis + Eibachs. The range I saw for Konis when I was doing my research was around $600, so I'd say that seller is in range. Also, the fronts are inserts, ie. you need to cut up a set of stock or aftermarket fronts to use with the Koni insert. See link below:
