Are floor mats under warranty? :)

The metal ringlet in my driver's side floor mat that hooks to the plastic hook on the carpet has come loose. Would this be under warranty or considered a wear and tear item?

Thanks!
Robert

Not sure. But take it in to the dealership. the worst the could say is not its not covered and you'll have to buy new ones.

i would say wear and tear item. They are pretty cheep at the dealership. I got another set of all weather mats for our max. we use them in the winter months here. Work like a charm. If i remember right, they are the same price as the cloth ones.

thanks for the great replies everyone....

glad to hear that you like the all-season ones as i had considered some of those a while back, along with some other aftermarket ones some people had that covered more area and maybe protected a little better than the nissan ones. i just wasn't sure i could deal with the color not exactly matching my beige interior.

i would recommend the factory nissan all seasons! They work great, and are A LOT cheaper then the weather tech ones.

I have the OEM all-season and they are great. OP's question was about the mats being under warranty and I don't think so. You could remind your dealership what happened with Toyota and mats creeping under the pedals and see if you can get replacements.

LOL...I tried that on mine but as they knew (at that time) I was already on my third set they gave me the "riiiggghhhhtttt...nice try" line!!

Has anyone else had luck on just a normal rubber floor mat? Not the uber cheap ones but just a decent set that isn't Maxima specific. I just don't want a Toyota situation on my hands.....

My driver side floormat started fraying and my salesman got it replaced for me no questions asked...it may be a dealer specific type of thing.

i would just get the nissan ones, you are guaranteed a perfect fit that way. they aren't that much, call your dealer and see what the price is. Then go to walmart and see what those generic ones cost. And i would bet they don't fit
nice thread on this last year
http://forums.maxima.org/7th-generat...ch-nissan.html
while i agree about the weather techs, they are like A LOT more then the nissan ones. I think the nissan ones were 70 bucks after tax. I believe correct me if im wrong, the weathertech mats are like 180+.
So you could get the nissan mats, and 2 other sets of nissan carpet mats for the same price!

Wanted to follow-up on my driver's mat issue for anyone curious. Gave my local dealer a call and told them about the metal ring coming loose from the driver's side mat, figuring it wouldn't hurt to ask if it was covered under warranty, and they said, yep we can replace them under warranty...just swing by and let us pull the info from your car and we'll get you a new set. Pretty sweet and wasn't really expecting that It's nice to be pleasantly surprised once in a while

The only thing I'm not sure I'm wild about the OEM All-Seasons is that the only color is black and not sure how I'd like that with my beige (tan) interior

Yep I had the same reservations, the contrasting colors actually compliment each other and look nice.

One more thing....my plastic hook on the driver's side carpet that fastens into the mat isn't very secure at all...meaning that it seems to just be fastened to the carpet and not to anything more substantial under the carpet. I just want to make sure that's normal. I can basically lift it up a couple inches...or basically however much play is in the carpet there. It allows the mat to move a bit and just feels weird not to be anchored more than that. Is this how others are?

That is great!!! its nice to have something nice like that happen every now and again.

Before we got our maxima we had an acura and the front rotors started to warp just a hair at 45k miles. I simply asked the dealer about it and they said let us take care of it. Turned the rotors and put on new pads for me. and gave me a new TL loaner for 1.5 days, I couldn't get back to the dealer that night before they closed.

If they're going to replace them under warranty they may have to give you exact part #. So if your mats are tan, you may be stuck with tan because they may have to send the original back. I'm not completely positive but I'm almost sure of it. If your dealer will give you black then that's cool. Did they say they'd give black?

Mine is the same way. It is also like that on my Murano except the Mo has two hooks instead of the one on the Max. If I recall correctly the Altima I traded was the same way and I have had no problems with the hooks.

Ninja,

Yeah, the only thing my dealer is going to do is give me replacement tan mats just like I currently have...I should have probably been clearer. I am just considering other options. Could always sell the new mats I get from the dealer and get some OEM All Weathers I guess.

I don't think this is a dealer specific thing. I asked my dealer about the mats. My foot has wore a hole away from switching from the gas to the brake and they just ordered me up a new set covered under warranty.

www.weathertech.com. Order the Digital Fit floor mats they are expensive, but they held up well in the last car I owned. I already have a set ordered for my new Maxima.

They ARE covered under warranty. If it has a hole in it, any dealership would cover them rather than get a Toyota rep. lol....no, but seriously, they'll cover it as long as it's within the 3 years. It was retarded tho, I had to put my car in for THEM to install the mats. They wouldn't let me take them and install myself. Whatever, I got new ones :P

I agree. Had my digi-fit floor liners in for almost a year and they still look great.

Kinda surprised that dealers are replacing the carpeted floormats free of charge. Would think this is just one of those wear and tear items that's up to the owner to replace.

I think the Weather Tech digi-fit floor liners are a love it or hate it thing. Some folks swear by them and are very happy.

Others like myself, my wife, and my mother in law don't like them. I think its mostly a matter of materials. The digital fit liners are made of a relatively thin plastic-like material. It's not thick like a rubber mat, and not cushy like a carpet. It gets folded during shipping and can take some work to flatten out. It's also quite smooth and slippery, which I don't prefer.

For the Maxima, the Weather Tech "generic" rubber mats are terrible. They are very thick and durable, but the fit is really lousy. The OEM rubber mats fit much better. (those are my pics in the link above).
