My transmission has been giving me all kinds of problems after my AT to MT swap. I had a difficult time shifting into second and sometimes I couldn't shift into the 1st/2second position at all. My speed sensor also went out around the same time.

After the clutch was replaced all was well until I developed a horrible leak on the driver side seal. Second seal and it still leaks. The axle has lots of play in the up,down left right motion not in/out. My mechanic swears that it needs a japanese axle which supposedly has a bigger axle housing. I wasn't aware of any Japanese maxima.

What do you guys think that it may be. First and Second gear has always made a loud winding noise ever since I got it.

All points point to a new transmission.

 

I'll try another transmission.

 

Where did you get the tranny from? Miles? Condition? Was it rebuilt?

Got it local from someone who did a 5 speed swap. I paid extra to have it rebuilt too.

The Differential bearing was COMPLETELY shot. It was actually bad from day one though as 1st and 2nd gear would always make a loud winding noise. This new completely transmission is very quiet.

 

Yep, bad bearings. The rebuilded either didnt replace the bearing or they didnt shim the correctly. Tell your mechanic he was dead wrong.
