99 starting issue

Hello all...

I'm having a starting issue with my 99 maxima. This problem just started outta the blue and is driving me bonkers.

So this is the deal. I get in push the clutch, and get this..

So far i've replaced the following:
Fuel pressure regulator
Crank sensor (between eng/trans)
Cam sensor
Tried two starters. One oem nissan, one autozone
replaced my fuel filter with oem 300z one
Cleaned the im grounds per the fsm

Also when the engine is warm, it takes a little bit less time to start. Also when im cranking the car i get puffs of black smoke out the tail pipe, and when it fires up a cloud of black smoke shoots out the tail pipe.

next thing i was going to try, is to test and or replace the crank sensor on the front of the engine. Other than that im at a loss...

any ideas?

have u replaced the clutch recently? Sounds like u having poor electrical conductivity of the CKPS.

Add a ground wire from the negative battery terminal to a bolt on the tranny. Do a SEARCH. There are pics on the org.

Check your fuel pump as well. It may be starting to weaken

Check the 2 sub harness's by the positive battery terminal. They look like RJ46 jacks with only one prong. Unplug them and clean them really good so you have a nice clean connections.
The puff of smoke may indicate a leaking fuel injector.

I havent touched the clutch in a while. However I did replace the trans a while ago. This problem just came about.

I'll try the ground wire.. Doesn't the trans get grounded through the engine?

I'll check the fuel pump.. it does have 240k mi or so.

Thanks!. I'll try that.

Would a leaky injector cause a backfires while cranking?

the tranny does ground through the engine thats why when alot of folks swap trannys or do a clutch job they dont sand the mating surface of the engine and bell housin an that will cause a back fire cuase the crank senor there is gettin a false reading that why folks add a ground wire from negative on the batt to a bolt on the tranny there was a guy on here had the problem ill see if i can get the link he had a video it was backfireing also ground wire fixed it

heres the link
