Pirelli or Yokohama...

I need new tires for my maxi and I'm not looking for the best tires out there. I'm looking for long tread life (40,000 miles) with good traction in dry/rain/snow. I am looking at mainly Pirelli P400 Touring or Yokohama Avid T4. Any suggestions?

Bridgestone Potenza RE940 some of the best rated tires for all year performance.

I've got the pirelli p400, and they handle really well. Snow, rain whatever, no problems, and they are fairly quiet on the road, not sure about treadwear, b/c i have only had them for 2 months.

Yokohama... no doubt

I have Pirelli P7000s... lousy as hell and horrible tread life, plus if you ever decide to go to a road course... the Pirellis will come apart in chunks... they suck...

ultimates... Bridgestone Potenza S-03s

I have Pirelli P8000's and they are nice in most weather. However they do suck in snow and icey conditions. Have to purchase snow tires.

Yokohama...

But you're looking at the Avid H4 or V4. The T4 is not for cars. Long tread life, but they're kinda loud and traction is not great. I've got the H4s.

You sure? Discount Tire Direct seems to think they are for my max.

long life means you can't have a "Z" rated tire. All "Z" tires don't last real long.

I have a set of AVSdb's on my max, I have about 5k on them and I love them they are much better than the stock Toyo's. They are actually very quiet, they are amazing in the rain, It has not snowed in Iowa yet do I don't know about that. So far they still look new. They ride softer than the Toyo's but still have better grip.

They sure look like they're made for cars to me:
Ford Contour SE
Honda Accord LX
Mazda 626 LX
Chevrolet Cavalier
Z24 Oldsmobile
Achieva SC
Pontiac Sunfire GT
Toyota Corolla
Buick Skylark
And Others

The H4/V4:
http://www.yokohamatire.com/04b1a.html

Probably a better bet though. Suggested for:
Acura Legend
Audi A4
BMW 525
Camaro Z28
Infiniti I30
Lexus GS 400
Lexus SC 300
Mazda MX-6
Mercedes-Benz
Mitsubishi Eclipse
Nissan Maxima
Pontiac Grand Prix
SE Toyota Supra
And Others

Thanks for the tip. I'll probably go with the H4/V4 since they have a 45k mile tread life warranty.

I've been riding on my Yoko dB's since this January and saw some snow with it here in NJ. They are lousy on roads over 1.5" of powdered snow. If you hit a slight hill, you're skrewed. Aside from that, they are great under all other conditions (not to mention extremely quiet). Racked up 14-16K miles on them this year and the front have merely 25-30% tread left , while the rears have good 65-70% tread left. Talk about time to rotate

Next winter I'll be going with Dunlop SP5000's

sorry about bringing this discussion up again
I'm buying new tires this week, my choice is yokohama AVSDB 205/65/15 or dunlop sp sport 5000 v rated, they're teh same price, I'm having a tough time to pick between the two. I got 45000km out of my stock 15 inch good year GA tires(nothing left now), how long do you think the yokohama AVSDb & the dunlop will last? how many km can I expect them to have. Also can/should I go 215/60/15, will they fit in my stock GLE rims?, is it an good idea or will it wear the thing out faster?

Reality check:

Many people who used Pirelli can tell you that Pirelli is not the tire of choice for long life. They even addimted that their tires wear out faster in return for better performance.

However, P400 is a touring model, which is not really high performance, so I guess it should have good tread life.

Avid T4, forget those if they are selling them for MSRP or up. You might as well get AVS V4 for a little bit more.

Go with AVS Db in 225/60 VR15. I have had them for the past year and they are great. Wet weather traction is outstanding, so is dry. They don't mess up your speedo and for $70 per at www.tirerack.com, you can't beat the price. (they are mounted on stock rims.)

do you think those yokohama AVS db V rated tires will out last my stock good year GA tires (H rated)? this is the thing I'm most concern about, I don't want tires with short tread life.
