my maxima sounded like a semi truck

so u kno the sound a semi makes when its like idling down the highway or somethin idk that REALLY loud sound? well like a week ago my car made that noise. i let off the gas then like 3 sec later it stopped. i stepped on the gas a lil n nothin happened like it went back to normal. it scared the hell outta me. i pulled over n everythin looked fine from wat i can see. then the other day i was goin down the highway doin about 80 and it did it agian. but both times it was pretty windy out. the first time i was doin about 60 and the second time about 80. but the day before the second time i was doin 80 down the highway for like 40 min. but idk i have no idea why the hell it wud do that? can someone please help me lol

You sure there wasn't any Semi around you using the "engine brake" when you heard this....jj.....

That huge farting noise trucks make when coasting or slowing is the "jake brake." It allows the engine to more effectively serve as a brake by opening the exhaust valves at TDC, so the compressed air in the cylinder doesn't force the piston back down and turn the crank. There's a big ol' expansion as the compressed air suddenly rushes out of the cylinder, hence the fart.

Thought you might like to know.
