Difficult to change I35 headlight ballast?
My passenger side headlight recently went out and after changing the bulbs it still doesn't function. I'm guessing the ballast is the issue but the place that has my car doesn't want to fix it (since they were putting in a new alternator I asked for them to do the headlights as well).
Is it possible for someone without a lift or garage workspace to replace the ballast? I've read many threads about getting the headlights out and needing to get under the car which I'm assuming I'd have to do to reach the ballast. I don't have a workspace since I live in a building and the parking garage is open to the outdoors. I really don't want to take it to the dealer and pay tons of money when I can get an OEM ballast for cheap on eBay. I'm really hoping this is something that can be done quick and easily.
Oh and I've read at least one eBay auction that claims the I35 used two different types of ballast and that I need to make sure I'm getting the right one. Is that true?

It's easy! You can get at it from the top on both sides.
I believe the Driver's side is alittle tighter than the passenger, but you can still get to it from the top. Just make sure you have good light and a full socket set.
Thanks, I haven't gotten my car back from being repaired yet so I didn't have the opportunity to look for the ballast.
You mentioned that the bulb is a D2R bulb which I learned from searching the forum but I was asking about the actual ballast itself which an eBay auction claimed was one of two possible ballast types that were used. I hadn't seen that information anywhere else so I was just wondering if there was any validity to it. I would imagine that any ballast pulled from an I35 would work.

Well as a fyi, in the I35 you definitely can't get to the ballast without getting under the car and removing the headlight. You can barely even see the ballast from above as it's completely blocked by the headlight and other stuff in the engine compartment.
