My Philips VisionPlus H4 Review (long)

Background

I ordered these off powerbulbs.com, a UK site. Came to $28 and change, shipped, along with a free set of OSRAM H3 Foglight bulbs. Came in about 10 days.

If you go to the site, note that their pounds-to-dollars conversion seems to be off and says they’re only $17 per pair. They’ll ring up at $28 though.

I e-mailed customer service a question (are they 55/60 watt?) and got a timely and friendly answer. (yes.)

I have no idea if the OSRAM fogs are any good or not.

Anyway, on to the Vision Plus:

In short, they make a GREAT difference in visibility over stock. I can see more of the road, and further ahead. The color of the light is probably a bit whiter than stock, but I’m not really concerned with the "prettiness" of the light.
They do seem like they’re "pointed" awfully high- I can see the beam pattern on trees 40 yards in front of me. I’ll have to make sure they’re in straight. Haven’t been flashed by angry motorists yet, so they’re probably OK.

I’ll leave the details at this: Philips claims they put 50% more light on the road, and light up 10-20 meters farther ahead. They also claim you can see reflections off road signs, etc. better. I would strongly agree with ALL of these claims, and also add that the area lit up is wider as well as longer.

If you’re concerned with safety and visibility, I can’t think of a $28 more well—spent than these bulbs. If you want cool-looking lights and care less about visibility, I’d say you probably want to stick with the PIAA’s or something.

Here is a comparison test touting these as the best all-around lights, beating all the big boys, including Blue Visions. This is what sold me.

This might be a silly question.... But are H4 bulbs the same as 9004? In other words, 4th gen compatable or 5th gen?

OSRAM bulbs are standard equipment in all BMW's with standard lighting. (non HID) The OSRAM bulbs throw a very nice clean light.

Sylvanias are from Osram... or Osrams are from Sylvania... or something... they're one and the same... hehe

Anyway, yah, I concur... Nice and bright. On a long stretch of highway you can see all the road markings bumps and lines all the way in front of you... and the other lanes beside you left and right...

Anyone with a 95-96 can cahnge out their headlight housing with a 97+ and have an even brighter light, cuz the 'blurry' glass found on the earlier 4th gens wasn't good for bright light, but then the 97 came out with plastic, but more clearer lenese,,food for though
